An Elephant & Piggie Biggie! Volume 3 (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

I am really happy to complete the series so that elephant gets his full face! In my other reviews, this is a good one to get if you are planning to get the whole series and haven't got the only books on their own. This is because the titles aren't new but just compilations of 5 of his books in 1.

I really like Mo Willems because he combines basic reading with simple yet adorable cartoon characters which appeals to young children. The stories are written no simpler than books that kids are using to recognize and begin reading independently such as "you have a bird on your head.", " I have a bird on my head?". I like especially that these books go back to the very basics of using words like "i have" vs "I've" where the latter confuses kids trying to recognize basic common words and is common in books these days. If you are truly looking to get your toddler and kindergartener started, look no further.

The Elephant and Piggie stories, by Mo Willems, are modern classics. I worked for many years as a children's librarian, and I refer to the series as the gateway drug to literacy. I purchased the three volumes (each with five of the original stories) for our roofer to give to his young children. While it is convenient to have five books in one sturdy volume, each one is very thick and heavy, and might be hard for small hands to hold, or intimidating for reluctant readers (although Elephant and Piggie do encourage them, along the way, which is fun). Five stars, definitely, for this superb series, but consider purchasing the original, separate copies for young readers, in classic "beginning reader" size, instead of the thick collections (the size and heft is why I gave these 4 stars).

We really enjoy Mo Willems as an author. We have books 1-3 and they are a great value because each book contains 5 of the Elephant and Piggie stories. My child enjoys reading them to her teacher/class (e-learning) and to us at bedtime.

She’s learning to engage her listeners by avoiding a monotonous tone or odd pace because the text and illustrations are clean and simple. It is easy for her to focus on the words and the context in which they are being said/meant to be read. This helps her to be a better reader because she sees the italicized words, the punctuation, and the size of the text, as well as the characters expressions and she can easily read the book as it’s meant to be read by varying the tone, volume, and speed at which she reads and emphasizing certain words or sounds and pauses.

We read these over and over again and her confidence with reading is growing and I love that — she used to hate trying to read!

I have been a preschool teacher for 8 years and I absolutely love Mo Willems and my 6 year old daughter does too! We have enjoyed this book for bed time stories and I like that the spine of the book creates Geralds face when stacked with volumes 1 & 2. This is also a great beginners book for reading. The words are big and bold while the stories and phrases in the book are short. The stories are also funny and entertaining.

I love the Elephant and Piggie book. It was disappointing to have the book arrive with a dented corner, most likely from inadequate packaging during shipping.

We love this series, but the binding was torn when we opened the box like another customer also mentioned. Ordered a replacement. Hopefully that will be in good condition.

This is the perfect collection of Elephant and Piggy books for a Mo Willems fan or for a early reader. The illustrations are simple but fun, the characters are endearing and the text is simple enough for beginning readers. My kids love these books. This collection comes in hardcover and a sturdy binding. We will be getting the rest of the books in this series as well.

The kids also love looking for the hidden pigeons throughout these stories.

Love, love, love the book. However the book came damaged. It’s just for my daughter and I don’t want to go through the hassle of going to a return site during the pandemic. Kind of disappointed with how they are packed by Amazon but the book is great. My five year old has read all the stories before bed time and it’s over 300 pages long.

These books are written on a kindergarten level. They are much more entertaining then the Bob books and other books we have for that level. My first grader and kindergartener enjoy reading these.

Beautiful hard covers, I cannot wait until my granddaughter opens them.
