Description

“A model storyteller of mystery and suspense mixed with an entrancing romance, Amanda Quick...once again holds the reader in rapt attention with 'Til Death Do Us Part ...an intriguing read that keeps audiences entrenched in the lives of the characters.”—Examiner.com xa0 “Best-selling Quick knows what her readers want, and she delivers it in spades with her latest mesmerizing historical romance. The perfectly realized Victorian setting adds just the right dash of gothic flavor to the story, and the smartly paced plot is filled with enough goose-bump-inducing chills and sexy, romantic thrills to have readers sighing happily with satisfaction. The icing on this irresistible literary confection is Quick’s distinctive sense of wit, which remains just as delicious as ever.”— Booklist (starred review) xa0 “Romantic suspense luminary Quick moves into edgy thriller territory with intelligence and aplomb and uses the backdrop of gaslight-tinted, death-obsessed Victorian London to perfection. The plot is smart and tight and the characters complex, while the subtle wink of humor toward a successful mystery author's plight and romance subplots will make fans smile. Quick's appealing new direction somehow balances Gothic intensity and lighthearted wit.”— Kirkus Reviews (starred review) xa0 “Quick’s ambitious Victorian historical mixes witty, occasionally self-referential banter with gothic undertones and a solid thriller plot...Along with the danger, Quick throws in a great deal of humor, a large cast of well-rounded characters, and lots of solid red herrings. This is a true delight for fans of historical romances and mysteries.”— Publishers Weekly (starred review) xa0 “The whole plot was so well thought out and frankly amazing...Amanda Quick is still—after all these years—a magnificent writer.”—Quite the Novel Idea Amanda Quick is a pseudonym for Jayne Ann Krentz, the author of more than fifty New York Times bestsellers. • Calista Langley operates an exclusive “introduction” agency in Victorian London, catering to respectable ladies and gentlemen who find themselves alone in the world. But now, a dangerously obsessed individual has begun sending her trinkets and gifts suitable only for those in deepest mourning—a black mirror, a funeral wreath, a ring set with black jet stone. Each is engraved with her initials.   Desperate for help and fearing that the police will be of no assistance, Calista turns to Trent Hastings, a reclusive author of popular crime novels. Believing that Calista may be taking advantage of his lonely sister, who has become one of her clients, Trent doesn’t trust her. Scarred by his past, he’s learned to keep his emotions at bay, even as an instant attraction threatens his resolve.   But as Trent and Calista comb through files of rejected clients in hopes of identifying her tormentor, it becomes clear that the danger may be coming from Calista’s own secret past—and that only her death will satisfy the stalker...

Does she have a ghost writer?

I'm a Quick fan, I've read every one of her books. Barely into it, it seemed as though someone else wrote it. The style was so completely wrong. The dialog was flat, no chemistry between the characters. Very disappointing, and I was looking forward to some relief from her tedious Arcane books.

A thoroughly fun and engaging ride!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. As is customary with Quick/Krentz, the characters were smart, interesting and independent. The (main) characters were all likeable, lovable, decent and inspiring. The character development, relationship progression and mystery were also solid and stitched together like a pro.
All in all, it was a highly entertaining and enjoyable ride! I definitely recommend it!

Good

I love Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick but this isn't one of her best. Her historical romances are usually too good to put down. This one is ok

Last Victorian Amanda Quick before 1930's California (Luther Pell's father)

I reread Til Death do Us Part Today because a minor character in TDDUP, Jonathan Pell, has a son, Luther Pell in the most Amanda Quick Burning Cove novels.

I read and enjoy all of JAK novels, but I think upon re-reading TDDUP that I can tell that JAK was ready to do something different. The Burning Cove books give Quick more opportunity to do stories with women who are making it in the world, despite adversity, & without having to rely on marriage as the primary way to save themselves.

Quick seems to be having fun again now that she's left Victorian London and moved to the environs of Golden Age Hollywood, in Burning Cove, California.

Now that I know more about Luther Pell's background, I have to re-read the Burning Cove books to pick up more on his life. As I write this, the 3rd Burning Cove books was just published (7 May 2019) and Luther Pell seems to becoming an ever more important, and interesting, background character in the BC books.

Not her best work

I have really enjoyed some Amanda Quick/Jane K. novels but this one sort of bored me. She can do better.
