I was pleasantly surprised with this book. At first glance I was sorry that I had bought it because it wasn't one of his "character" books, but it proved to be an even better read that those books were. This book is a mix of historical events and the quest to rediscover that history. It is also a real eye opener into the true character of Clive Cussler himself and the true NUMA organization.

I'm not a Clive Cussler fan-- but loved this book

This is a very interesting read. Mr. Cussler does state that he takes some liberties with dialogue and "the story behind the story" of each shipwreck. As a result, this book is not only the story of the recovery of the wrecks themselves, but a story behind how to boat came to be a shipwreck.

Most (but not all) of these are very famous wrecks-- and what impresses me most is how Cussler briefly describes the necessary tedium of hundreds and hundreds of hours of research that are needed prior to launching any effort to look for wrecks. Predicting and then finding a historically significant wreck in a parking lot in south Texas? Priceless.

I have also gotten to enjoy getting to know the author, who in my opinion is just as interesting-- maybe more so-- than the characters in his books. Maybe it's because we're fairly close in age and experience-- maybe it's because we share the same crusty outlook-- I don't know. But I found myself grinning openly, if not chuckling out loud, at many of his observances- especially of the United States Navy. Bless you, Clive.

I read, on average, two books per week. Most are simply average books, and I have no interest in providing reviews on Amazon for average books. But occasionally I run across a book that's well written, insightful and of historical value to the average layperson-- like me. And when I do, I feel an obligation to others to bring it to their attention.

Well done, Mr. Cussler. I was not expecting such a diverse and well-researched series of stories.

I love Cussler's fiction, but this one is non-fiction, actual searches for historic shipwrecks, and the history behind them!! One of my favorite reads, Sea Hunters two is great, also!!

From the Mississippi River to the North Sea, this book takes you everywhere. And the stories are all true.

Clive Cussler is just an interesting guy: He's a New York Times best-selling author, a world traveler and is famous for his discovery of numerous historic shipwrecks. His life nearly parallels that of his hero, Dirk Pitt. This book is a collection of his adventures over the past years as he and his National Underwater and Marine Agency sail around America and the rest of the globe in search of history. These true stories are fun, entertaining and fascinating to read. Rather you're a history buff or not this book is worth reading nonetheless.

Shawn Goodman's "Kindness for Weakness" is a book that will grab your attention & should get a lot of attention later on in the year. The story revolves around James a teenager who comes from a broken home & who gets caught in an honest mistake set up by his older brother that lands him in the NY juvenile corrections institute. It is there that James grows up from being the boy he is into a much stronger character through the interactions with a wide variety of inmates & the experiences while incarcerated. Goodman's story is very well written & with the realistic approach to the prison experience we see a side of things that isn't shown often & is definitely a book that we all can learn from & is important for people of all ages.
