Praise for THE FIANCÉE: "A tense, simmering, fast-paced mystery, Kate White’s latest captivating thriller explores the secrets that lurk just under the surface of a picture-perfect façade. Ho Hum

I always read Kate White’s books that are generally entertaining. I have noticed that some seem to be written too hurriedly of late, particularly this one. My complaint is the dearth of plot movement. Instead there is an infinite amount of “filler”—repetitive, extraneous, boring musings by the narrator. I have not quite finished although I have easily guessed what is to come re the Mary Oliver poem and I suspect I can guess who is not a murderer. The book moves at a snail’s pace. Whenever I read books laden with irrelevant thoughts, I suspect that the author dashed the book off to get another under the belt instead of working on a more complex tale. Honestly, I think if the filler were excised, the book would have been 90% shorter.

A fast paced murder mystery!

Summer, her husband Gabe and his son are looking forward to a relaxing time at Gabe's parents annual Family get together. Gabe's brother Nick brings his new girlfriend to the party. There's something off about Hannah. While she charms the other family members Summer has her suspicions. This is a definite page turner! A very well written murder mystery with a wonderful cast of characters. Highly recommend!

A satisfying read.

The Fiancée by Karen White is a satisfying read, yet for some reason a spark was missing for me. Summer, a budding actress and playwright, her husband Gabe and stepson, Henry are excited to begin their annual vacation at Gabe's loving and wealthy parents home in Buck County, PA. As is tradition, Gabe's brothers and their wives,Blake and Wendy, Marcus and Keira, and Nick, the bachelor, will be joining them.
When they arrive the household is all abuzz as Nick announced at the last minute that he would be brining his new girlfriend. When Nick introduces her, Summer immediately recognizes her as another actress she had met, and even had a coffee date with. Why then has Hannah denied knowing Summer?
That provides a introduction to the book; you will discover the rest as you read it; I don't want to spoil it.
I found Summer and Gabe's relationship to be annoying, and at times the book moved slowly for me. Yet all in all, The Fiancée is very readable and entertaining. 3.5 stars.

A Disappointment

I have read many of Kate White's books and was never disappointed. This book, however, was really awful. I could only get through 70 pages before I gave up. Definitely a thumbs down.

Too long by 200 pages!

I liked this book in the beginning but it turned into a ridiculous one. There were way too many shocking twists to the extent of being un shocking. Pretty sure I’ll never read another of her books!

A Riveting Read

This book was a true page turner, I couldn`t put it down. I felt very sorry for Summer, her life was turned upset down. A family vacation gets tragic , when one brother brings a date, that Summer worked with, but the girl says no she didn`t work there. Then the brother announces they are engaged. The cozy family won`t be the same, no trust in Hannah. Then two deaths and Summer is out to prove that one wasn`t a accident and no one will believe her.
The story has some twists that keep you reading and not wanting to put it down. It is a book that every mystery lover will enjoy

Did she or didn't she?

The Keaton family is gathering for a week long holiday together at the parent’s compound. Most of them know each other with the exception of a son’s new fiancée. We learn that the family appears to get along; the parents are well off and often help financially with their sons’ businesses. Then one of the family members is found dead. Daughter-in-law, Summer, is the narrator of the story and has an instant dislike and suspicion of the fiancée, Hannah, after she lies about past events.

Our author managed to begin a slow burn with the story. Who did it, who do I trust, why would anyone do such a terrible thing? It couldn’t be a family member could it? Maybe it was an intruder or a member of the staff. I will admit that I didn’t figure it out. Great whodunit!

Audio entire book in Sotto voce

The book itself is ok, not as good as Kate White usually is, but ii was wearing that the entire audio book was done in sotto voce whispering style. I disliked all of the characters excep for the dogs.
