Let's talk about this book!!! What would you do if you lived in a quiet street , on a quiet little town where everyone know each other. Where your closest friends have been your friends since you were little and one day some one new and mysterious moves in on your street? One afternoon after many attempts to find out who your neighbors are you guys receive an invitation to a dinner party at the new neighbor's house. Will you go? I know my curiosity would get the best of me and I would go. Lol.

Long time friends Bethany, Leo, Piper, Lakynn, Henry and Shane decides to attend this dinner party hosted by their new mysterious neighbors. While drinks were being poured they had a bad feeling but it wasn't until after dinner that they understood the reality of it all. Now they most work together and decipher the clues in order to survive. Six friends went in, would six of them come out? Can they trust each other or will their secrets turn them apart?

I loved loved this book. And just when I thought I had everything figured out there comes Kiersten and hit me with a twist I was not prepared for. The Queen of twist has climb the way up the list of my favorite author.

Bizarre Twists in a Wild and Wooly Tale

This book is bizarre, in a good way, but bizarre, nevertheless. Suppose you see the neighborhood mansion being turned into its own gated, totally secure community, but the new neighbors never introduce themselves? Then, suppose you get an invitation to dinner there? Would you go? Out of curiosity, I probably would, but after reading this book, umm, I’m rethinking that. Piper, Shane, Leo, Bethany, Lakynn, and Henry are all attending the dinner party at Penn and Etta’s new home. But things are not what they seem, not by a long shot! Of course, if you have read other books by this author, you know to expect the unexpected, but this book gives new meaning to twisted surprises. Just when I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, another door opened (or shut) and I was left in the dark to wonder again. The characters were not particularly likable but they were realistically relatable, with regular jobs and regular relationships. The plot was fast-paced and quick to lead me into the wrong assumption before just as quickly giving me a new clue and getting me back on the right path again. Fans of psych thrillers will not want to miss an invitation to the dinner party, but you might want to leave before dessert! Filled with secrets, lies and deception, this book is a how-to book on how to hook readers and keep them reading!

The story is just plain silly

This K. Modglin story asks a LOT of the reader. I mean, all psychological thrillers require a bit of suspension of disbelief but this was over the top. Pure silliness.

Great concept - confusing application though

Interesting concept, good start, sort of got frustrating though. I had to write down the characters names because the POV Got so confusing, even if each chapter starts with the name, you quickly lose it.
I was really frustrated towards the end, if this is truly a small town - which was stated several times, why didn’t this group of people know some of the stuff that was revealed in the last few chapters? (I’m being cryptic as to not give anything away) it just didn’t seem possible that they wouldn’t know this…

After reading all the 5 star reviews,I was beginning to wonder if I'd read the same book.IMO,The Dinner Guests was just another version of I Know What You Did Last Summer type of story.It center on three grown women who act like they're still in high school. They all married their high school sweethearts and are so co dependent on each other they even bought houses next door and across the street from each other. After mysterious new neighbors move into the neighborhood,they are eventually invited to dinner. Of course,the hosts have an agenda far beyond meeting their neighbors and all will be revealed.This book was so predictable I almost didn't finish reading it but I soldiered thru.Honestly, if all of these people had still been dating and not married for 20 plus years,this could have been a YA novel.I've read much better from Kiersten Modglin and hope to in the future.

Opening sentence sets the stage.

"The moving trucks came without warning". That opening sentence sets the tone and ramps up the suspense from the get-go and sets the stage for the kind twisty novel of domestic suspense we expect from Kiersten Modglin. New people move into the big house at the end of the street. Who are the new neighbors and why did they build that concrete wall and install all that security equipment? The nosy neighbors are dying to meet them. The book is written in chapters narrated by childhood friends Lakynn, Bethany, and Piper giving us a look into their "perfect" lives in this close-knit subdivision in a small town. There are references to something in their past that adds to the tension. When a strange dinner invitation arrives in their mailboxes at the last minute, of course they are going. Since this is a novel by Kiersten Modglin we all know this won't be your typical dinner party. As usual Ms Modglin has written a twisty novel that kept me on the edge of my seat till the wee hours when I finished it in one sitting, The "perfect" characters are well developed and believable, if slightly tarnished by the end of the book. I want to thank the author for allowing me to read an ARC of this book we were all waiting so impatiently for.

This is my third K Mod book and honestly, I have to say the queen of thrillers sets the bar higher and higher with every new release! If you love locked room mysteries like I do, The Dinner Guests is a work of perfection…I dare you to finish this book beyond one sitting!

Narrated from the POV of the female protagonists - Lakynn, Bethany and Piper - the story takes place in a quaint small town where 6 friends have lived all their lives and raised families.

One day, a new neighbor comes into town and builds up maximum security around their new house, which gets Lakynn, Bethany and Piper alert. Though the new neighbor doesn’t formally introduce themselves, our 5 friends (one friend is left out) receive a bizarre dinner invitation. Reluctantly, all 6 friends go. During dinnertime, things go terribly, terribly wrong and all the facades that the friends put up with all the years, must come down. Who is this new neighbor and why are they playing a dark game testing friendships? You’ll have to read to find out! Thriller friends, you absolutely do not want to miss this one!

Read this if you like: Multiple POV, twists, trapped together trope, secrets

Holy crap. This book would not let me go. I intended to start it then go to bed. What a huge mistake. I stayed up late and finished it, of course. I have a big issue with Kiersten's books. It's that every time I read one it becomes my new favorite, without fail. This one is so twisty, so shocking. I hate no idea where it was going.

It's about a group of friends that receive unexpected invitations to a dinner party from their new neighbors. Many of them have a bad feeling but they go anyway. The neighbors seems quite mysterious with tons of security around their house. They want to know more about them, naturally.

As the drinks are poured and dinner is served, the group begins to realize things are not what they seem. What starts out as an innocent night of fun soon becomes a seemingly calculated game filled with cryptic messages, creepy riddles, and chilling revelations. They have no way out of this house. They are being tested, their secrets are coming out, and members are their group are disappearing.

I am so shocked. What an amazing read. Highly recommend!
