Incomplete and making false claims

"Every recipe from the hit TV show along with product ratings"

That's what it says on the front of the dust cover, and that's why I bought the book. I wanted to make one specific recipe: "Linzertorte". This recipe was covered in Episode 4 of Season 20, together with a recipe for Belgian Spice Cookies. And while the latter made it into the book, the former is conspicuously missing. If you check the index, it goes from "linguine" straight to "lobster". Other possible keywords "tart", "Torte", "raspberry", also fail to find the recipe. It's not in there, despite the publisher's lofty claims.

"Includes the 2022 Season"

That's what it says across the top of the dust cover. May that as it be. Hard for me to tell whether this claim is true, as the season hasn't finished yet. But what good does that do me, when a two-year-old recipe has already been culled from the book? The recipe that I was looking for originally aired January 25th, 2020.

"Scan for FREE digital access to Season 22 recipes, ratings, videos, and insider tips"

That's what it says on the inside of the dust cover. And sure enough, there is a QR code that you can scan if you feel so inclined. Only, instead of taking you to exclusive content that you purchased with the book, it rather takes to the main website of America's Test Kitchen -- where you are then asked to buy a subscription to gain access.

To add insult to injury, the video for this recipe has been posted for free on the ATK website, right above advertisement for this very book. Just how blatantly can you be about deceiving your clients. I am happy to pay for the convenience of printed recipes, but if you take my money, at least keep up your end of the bargain.

Amazon should require the seller to update the product description: "Contains a selected list of past and some future recipes." As is, the book is defective, disappointing, and misleading. I generally like America's Test Kitchen and their recipes, but they make it way too difficult to get what you pay for.

Why this book doesn’t work

Why this book doesn’t work (those in the know get it 🙂)
1. It does NOT contain all recipes. I tried to get the book thru my library but to many holds. Then I tried The Perfect Cookie digital download from library. Nightmare. So I decided to order the whole book. I already have the meat one and it’s great.
So the book arrived the next day and I was so happy for Christmas baking! Nope missing more than half recipes I was looking for: Jam thumbprints, frosted velvet cookies, peppermint mocha cookies, white chocolate haystacks and hazel nut brittle. Very disappointed.
2. They have to figure out how to offer new seasons without so much bulk. This book is to bulky for people to use efficiently.
3. The print is almost smaller than magazine print, which reverts back to 2.
I would have kept the book if all the Christmas cookie recipes had been in it but they weren’t so I am returning it.
*As a side about some complaints about the price and saying it’s cheaper in ATK. It initially is cheaper at 19.95. But that is before taxes and shipping. Not counting tax base shipping is 5.95 and that is with maybe getting it in 21 days? My comparison was $33 with Amazon and next day arrival or $27 and arriving 2-3 weeks later ATK. No brainer I’ll pay the extra $4 and get it the next day.
** My review score is no reflection on the recipes themselves. ATK recipes if followed as stated work and are ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Amazon price

I pre-ordered this cookbook. Came today and it looks pretty amazing. Price was $45.00 price for $37.99. Last week I received an advertisement from Cook's Illustrated. $45.00 price for $19.95. In my book that is a huge difference. Tried to find on-line about price matching policy. If it is there, it is well hidden. Pretty unhappy about the price. Hoping I really enjoy the cookbook!

A Great Great Book. Love it

But I am unable to read it! Print is too small, and having to remove glasses all the time following the recipes. Plus I paid $31.56, verses the advertising price of $19.00

Disaatisfaction was my fault; I ordered the wrong book

The first review is from when I ordered the wrong book Updated correct review follows.

I bought this book because I watch Cooks Country and America’s Test Kitchen. I have written out several of my favorite recipes and wanted the pleasure of having them neatly organized in a book with pictures.

I should have paid attention to the reviews that say the book does not contain all the recipes from the show.
To be specific I could find none of these favorites of mine:
Cast Iron Skillet Baked Chicken, Greek Chicken, Green Goddess Roast Chicken, Shrimp Mozambique, Drop Meatballs, Lyonnaise Potatoes, Slow Roasted Salmon, Chicken Scarpariello.

The Jerk Chicken in the book is nothing like the jerk chicken on the TV show. The show featured a recipe in which everything was put in a blender whole and pureed. No cutting or chopping of any type. But the book has a more tedious and complicated recipe that requires a lot of work. Similarly, the roast beef tenderloin on the show was very easy and called for making a simple wine/beef sauce with it. I could not find that in the book.

I imagine if you just want a cookbook filled with recipes, this will work great for you. But if you are looking for a book with the recipes you’ve seen on the show, you’ll be highly disappointed. Needless to say, I am sending mine back.

08/08/22-Update
I returned the book because it did not contain all the recipes I wanted, including some of my favorites. I subsequently realized it was my error. The show I was watching was Cook’s Country and this book was from America’s Test Kitchen. The same group of cooks, but a different show.
I then ordered the 15th anniversary edition of the Cook’s Country cookbook, which also promised to contain every recipe from the show. I received it and true to their word, I was able to locate all my favorite recipes I had seen from that show.
I can find nothing wrong with the America’s Test Kitchen cookbook. It’s actually nicer than the Cook’s Country book since it is available hardbound.

Quite thorough

Oh my wow... This is a ginormous cookbook, but I would expect nothing less from a cookbook claiming to include 22 years worth of recipes. I've only been able to get through a fraction of the cookbook, but so far I love what I see. It's quite thorough.

I downloaded a sample of the book so I can try a few recipes before receiving it. I had to add a bit more seasonings to one dish, but that's only because I like a bit more kick in my dishes. Then again, isn't a recipe just a base to follow and to make your own according to your palate? I love the "Why This Recipe Works" blurb before each recipe, and I'm looking forward to reading all 1165 pages of this beast of a cookbook. So excited!

1200 pages, tiny font, more like a textbook

I ordered this for my 82 year old dad, who loves the show (I do too), but this is NOT a beautiful book to look through and ponder. This is a very, very heavy 1200 page textbook, font size 10, that is not even close to a pleasure to read. I love to cook, but the text is so dense that the recipes aren't clear. Perhaps I'll donate it to the library because it will cost me more to mail it back than it did to buy it. I am so very disappointed.

Poor quality control

I was sent a used book! Pages ripped, bridge coming apart, wrinkled up cover and pages discolored. Very very poor quality control

Fantastic recipes

My wife spends an inordinate amount of time looking up recipes and has found many online from America's Test Kitchen. We've always been very happy with the way food has turned out when we've used their recipes. When Christmas came this past year my wife strongly hinted that she wanted either a membership to their website or their cookbook. She got the cookbook. This thing is massive and packed full of very good recipes. She was delighted to see that the cookbook literally has 21 seasons worth of recipes and we've tried a handful of them over the past month. Every one has been spot on and tasted delicious. I highly recommend this cookbook as a staple for your kitchen.
