Description

I bought this book for my three year old son. He can't read yet, but we sit for hours while I explain to him what needs to be done and he can "answer" the questions using the stickers instead of having to write things out (which he also has not mastered yet). This book is awesome! --School Zone WebsiteMy preschooler and I complete a lot of workbooks aside from her regular school work to help her master concepts learned in school and also to teach her concepts she hasn't learned yet. I've come across some excellent workbooks, but this is by far her favorite because of the sticker aspect. I love the innovative sticker idea for this workbook instead of just paper and pencil like the others! The book has 64 pages of activities and the rest of the pages are the stickers that will be used to complete the activities. The illustrations in the book are very colorful and engaging and she loves peeling off the stickers; some of the stickers have been a bit difficult for her to peel off without my help though. I really like that the sticker sheets have borders around them and that each box is labeled with what page you are supposed to use that set of stickers for, so you don't have to guess or figure that out for yourself. The stickers are nice quality! Some of the concepts covered are finishing patterns, tracing and writing letters, sorting items by beginning sound, counting and graphing, completing mazes, alphabetical order, recognizing shapes, ordering numbers, categorizing, recognizing animal habitats and seasons, counting and adding pennies, and putting events in order (cause and effect). I love that there are so many different activities and concepts covered! I especially love the graphing and beginning money concepts because I haven't seen those in other workbooks we've tried. This is an awesome learning tool, but I do wish there was a little more repetition in some of the concepts to help with mastery instead of just introducing it. There are other books in this series and we are definitely going to get them! If you are looking for a workbook for your preschooler or kindergartner, this is the best choice! I'd say it's more suited to preschool age than kindergarten because a 5 or 6 year old might find the activities too easy. --Amazon For nearly 40 years, School Zone has helped make learning fun! Great learning at home and in the classroom. Joan Hoffman, M.A., is the author and co-author of hundreds popular storybooks and workbooks for children. Among the titles are Peter’s Dream , I Don’t Like Peas , and The New Bike (the latter two published under the pen name Marie Vinje), the Get Ready for Preschool , Kindergarten , and First Grade workbook trio, along with the entire Get Ready, Little Thinker, I Know It!, Try-n-Spy, and Little Busy Book workbook series. She is also co-founder, along with her late husband James Hoffman, Ph.D., of School Zone Publishing. Visionary in business, she has long looked at the world through a child’s eyes, infusing her stories and lessons with joy and relatability. As a mother of 4 back in the ‘70s, like moms the world over throughout history, she wanted what was best for her children. And she knew that teachers didn’t have the time to give her kids everything they needed. As an elementary school teacher, Hoffman worked hard to give her students what they needed to learn. And parents would ask her what they could do to help. That’s why she started School Zone—to help give children every possible chance to reach their potential. She brought retail experience gleaned from previously founding and managing two regional educational book and supply stores for teachers and parents. Her husband lent his blended talents of educator and entrepreneur. A professor of education who also had first-hand experience as an elementary teacher, he was involved in teacher education programs at several colleges and had served at the helm of a company that published classroom materials. Combining rock-solid editorial judgment and creative instincts with a thorough understanding of early education, Joan Hoffman was an exemplary proponent of design thinking long before it became a conceptual label. An innovative problem-solver, she has always sought to reach out to end users and challenge convention. Separating fleeting trends from legitimate advances has been essential to her company’s longevity. The results speak for themselves. With the next generation—both son Jonathan and daughter Jennifer—taking on creative and strategic leadership roles in the company their parents started, School Zone seamlessly integrated digital learning platforms. The company received Apple’s exclusive Human Interface Design Excellence Award for software development, and its apps were part of the first-generation iPad launch in 2010. School Zone’s flagship product, the Little Scholar Learning Tablet, has earned industry-wide recognition and awards, as has its online learning destination Anywhere Teacher. Inspired by mom’s story-telling excellence, son Jonathan continued that legacy with Charlie & Company, an original series for ages 3-7, available on Oznnoz, Kidoodle.tv, ToonGoggles, BatteryPop, Ameba, and Highbrow. Joan Hoffman says, “It is incredibly rewarding to see the children and grandchildren of some of our original customers enjoying our ever-evolving books, apps, flash cards, games, music, and other products—both print and digital.” In 2019 School Zone celebrates its 40 th anniversary, spanning portions of five decades and having sold more than 370 million educational products. Hoffman continues to be hands-on in the company, still writing, still envisioning, and still putting kids, parents, and teachers first.

Great Starter Workbook!

This workbook, along with the math stickers and the alphabet stickers are all great starter workbooks. My daughter really enjoys doing these books and we do plenty of different workbooks. The sticker books are her favorite. The company makes it very easy for the parent by placing the page number on each group of stickers that go with said page. Its also very easy to tear out of the sticker pages so you have it on hand while working through the workbook. This book is great for children ages 2 to 5 years old.

Awesome!

I am a former primary teacher. I bought this book for my granddaughter who just turned three. I think this book would be appropriate for ages 3-5. It is perfect! The pages have just a couple of activities on each page. The pictures are clear and colorful. The directions are easy to follow. I love that she can complete the activities using stickers. There are also some coloring activities, and a couple of pages that ask the child to trace and write the capital letter. She is too young for that, but she can put the picture that makes the beginning sound in the box with the letter. There are lots of pages that work on patterns, matching mother and baby farm animals, shapes, number and letter activities, sequencing, the seasons, categories, and rhyming etc. She thinks it is great fun and will do a couple of pages at a time. I love School Zone books even for school age children. You can't go wrong.

Fabulous Find!

I am a teacher who bought two of these--one for my 4 year old and one to keep on hand for my toddler. What sold me is that by using stickers to complete the tasks, this workbook allows children to show what they know without worrying about reproducing a perfect written symbol (letter or number). My son is a perfectionist. He knows there are 4 cows but if he cannot write a 4 just like the typed numeral, he will not complete the activity. I would much rather he work on his thinking skills and worry about fine motor skills when they are age appropriate.

Love it love it love it!

I got this book for my daughter when she was 4 and now for my son who is 4 too. They can't get enough of the activities. They are fun, the stickers and pictures and bright and attractive to a preschooler. They don't realize they are learning, since it does not feel very boring.

I can't say enough in praise of School Zone. Their books are way more engaging and cost a whole deal less than the Kumon books.

My 2nd grader works on grade level math books from School Zone and she loves them too.

Great for typically developing kiddos and ones with Autism!

I really love this book! I bought one for my 4-year-old and one for my 3-year-old with Autism. My 4-year-old has fun with it, and my 3-year-old is learning so much from it! I have gone through several kinds of workbooks for my 3-year-old, and none of them have worked well for him. He doesn't have a lot of pen control, and so this book has worked fantastic for him. I have been amazed to find out how many academic concepts he understands from this. There are prompts on how to use the stickers, and then follow up questions such as, "Which is the biggest?" I didn't realize that he knew the difference, until he circled the answer with his finger! I love, love, love this book! It is great for entertainment purposes and educational purposes!

Great book

This is my daughter's favorite preschool book. It is pretty basic and a lot of the work is done with stickers (not so much writing as other books) but she thoroughly enjoys it! I also like how it covers a lot of different concepts and teaches them math, etc while having fun. Definitely recommend this book!

Perfect for my 3 year old

She loves this book. We work on it every night for 20-30 minutes and she's the one to always remind us. It's definitely fast paste, so we will have to go back and do other exercises on letters and numbers at a time. But I am just glad that she wants to do this instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Missing page

We are enjoying it so far. I wish it has more pages so it doesnt have to end so quick. One downside is that I am missing the page with the stickers for pages 22-30. The book we have have two sets of stickers for pages 31-44. I wish you can do something about it.
