Description

My 6 year old son loves mazes and previously we'd bought Brain Games for Kids: Mazes, which last him less than a week. This one has been much longer lived. It's full color, which makes it more engaging, and has a wider variety of mazes and maze variations in it. Some of them are arrows, so you have to work through the maze by figuring out which arrows to follow. There are also mosaics to color, which are really fun because you have no idea what the image will be (though the color matching for the printer meant some of the colors were off). It's also about twice the size of Brain Games for kids: Mazes but the same cost. The only thing that i didn't love was that it's not spiral bound like the Brain Games book, but I think the extra pages are worth it, and it would only be an issue if you were on an airplane or something. --AmazonA 6 year old might find the first few pages of this book very easy, but the difficulty increases with the page numbers. Eventually a 6 yr old will come to a page of about 30 addition problems they have to complete, which end up being the directions they need to complete a picture. There are games in this book, color by number, crosswords, word searches, but it's 90% mazes. It's a nice fat book (301 pages) with an answer key at the back. It's a perfect activity book!! --AmazonThis book of mazes is terrific. My kids, 4 and 6, took turns working on this book over the summer and completed every single maze, sometimes doing them multiple times. The mazes have interesting graphics and layouts and some are quite challenging. This is the book that developed my younger son's maze skills. He worked on this book obsessively and was able to do even the hardest mazes by the end. I only wish there were more books like this one! --Amazon For nearly 40 years, School Zone has helped make learning fun! Great learning at home and in the classroom. Joan Hoffman, M.A., is the author and co-author of hundreds popular storybooks and workbooks for children. Among the titles are Peter’s Dream , I Don’t Like Peas , and The New Bike (the latter two published under the pen name Marie Vinje), the Get Ready for Preschool , Kindergarten , and First Grade workbook trio, along with the entire Get Ready, Little Thinker, I Know It!, Try-n-Spy, and Little Busy Book workbook series. She is also co-founder, along with her late husband James Hoffman, Ph.D., of School Zone Publishing. Visionary in business, she has long looked at the world through a child’s eyes, infusing her stories and lessons with joy and relatability. As a mother of 4 back in the ‘70s, like moms the world over throughout history, she wanted what was best for her children. And she knew that teachers didn’t have the time to give her kids everything they needed. As an elementary school teacher, Hoffman worked hard to give her students what they needed to learn. And parents would ask her what they could do to help. That’s why she started School Zone—to help give children every possible chance to reach their potential. She brought retail experience gleaned from previously founding and managing two regional educational book and supply stores for teachers and parents. Her husband lent his blended talents of educator and entrepreneur. A professor of education who also had first-hand experience as an elementary teacher, he was involved in teacher education programs at several colleges and had served at the helm of a company that published classroom materials. Combining rock-solid editorial judgment and creative instincts with a thorough understanding of early education, Joan Hoffman was an exemplary proponent of design thinking long before it became a conceptual label. An innovative problem-solver, she has always sought to reach out to end users and challenge convention. Separating fleeting trends from legitimate advances has been essential to her company’s longevity. The results speak for themselves. With the next generation—both son Jonathan and daughter Jennifer—taking on creative and strategic leadership roles in the company their parents started, School Zone seamlessly integrated digital learning platforms. The company received Apple’s exclusive Human Interface Design Excellence Award for software development, and its apps were part of the first-generation iPad launch in 2010. School Zone’s flagship product, the Little Scholar Learning Tablet, has earned industry-wide recognition and awards, as has its online learning destination Anywhere Teacher. Inspired by mom’s story-telling excellence, son Jonathan continued that legacy with Charlie & Company, an original series for ages 3-7, available on Oznnoz, Kidoodle.tv, ToonGoggles, BatteryPop, Ameba, and Highbrow. Joan Hoffman says, “It is incredibly rewarding to see the children and grandchildren of some of our original customers enjoying our ever-evolving books, apps, flash cards, games, music, and other products—both print and digital.”xa0 In 2019 School Zone celebrates its 40 th anniversary, spanning portions of five decades and having sold more than 370 million educational products. Hoffman continues to be hands-on in the company, still writing, still envisioning, and still putting kids, parents, and teachers first.

Great colorful book full of 261 mazes!!

This is a great maze book...and it seems to be the only one of its size and kind! Every page is in full-color. Of the 320 pages, there are 261 MAZES!!! It's rated 6-8 yrs old, but my 4.5 year old is a maze-aficionado and can do these on his own. He has almost 100 of the mazes done in 1 day between quiet time and bedtime hours; don't get me wrong, they're not preschool easy...some adults would find them briefly challenging, but his mind is just good at stuff like this. The book starts with easier mazes and gradually gets harder toward the back. There are some "math activities" and other things in this book, but I didn't buy it for that. I bought it purely for the mazes. I wish they made more volumes of this brand! I'd highly recommend it. There's an answer key in the back if you get stumped on any of the pages.

A-MAZE-ING Fun!

My 5 year old is obsessed with mazes and he got this for Christmas this year. It has a nice balance of simple and challenging mazes. Enough challenging ones to keep him interested, but enough easy ones to keep him from being frustrated.

I will definitely be buying more books like this after he finishes this book of mazes.

And... yes I called it A-MAZE-ING... the pun just wrote itself, seemed wrong to NOT put that in the review.

My three-year-old loves this!

My 3-year-old loves playing maze so I ordered this book for her. First, it is colorful (kids love colorful things). Second, it is so much fun working out different mazes that are full of animals, people and activities. Third, the book is thick (more than 300 pages). Last, it combines the maze and math and coloring together. It really kept my daughter busy for days. And, my daughter finished the first 38 pages at the first night when we received the book. It provides so much mother-and-daughter fun to our family. Highly recommended!

Great Maze Book

When my son turned 3 we got him a standard 4-6 maze book. Within a few days it was done and he was begging for more mazes. This book is huge, but we were worried that the mazes might be a big too hard for him. We went ahead and got it anyway. Not only was it not too hard, but he went immediately to the last page and did the hardest maze in the book. He's done all of the mazes at this point (almost 4 now), so it's lasted a long time. He is not able to do most of the other activities that involve for instance pretty difficult math problems. But we just bought it for the mazes anyway. Hundreds of colorful and clear mazes starting very easy and progressing to a decent challenge. Our book is super ratty as we have dragged it to just about every family gathering and waiting room we've been to over the last 9 or so months. We also got the Kumon Transportation mazes, but he liked this book better and it lasted much longer as well. I would recommend it for any kid who really loves mazes and who is proficient at the 4-6 books.

Perfect Book after Child has a handle on Simple Mazes

Every bit what we were looking for. My 4 year old is great at mazes so I didn't want the cheap $2 preschool ones that aren't very challenging. This book she's getting through with just the right amount of challenge. I do like how it progresses too. The first ones are easier and they get more difficult as it goes on. Perfect for a preschooler who already has a handle on simple mazes, though I'd only buy for a 7/8 yr old who has never done very many mazes. I think more like 4-6.

Big, colorful, creative mazes for young and old

My 4 yo son really likes this book and I would highly recommend it for anyone who likes mazes (young and old). The pages are big and colorful. Writing utensil optional (my son likes to use his finger which is great because we can use this again and again). I like that each maze has a theme and brief directions. There are also a few additional activities such as hangman, math grid connect-the-dots, color-by-number, etc. Solutions are listed in color in the back of the book. These mazes are unique and the bright pictures and cute themes maintain interest. This is much better than any other maze book we have. I would recommend a pencil, crayon or finger (not pen or marker) as I'd imagine there could be some bleed through. If you'd like to use marjer/pen, you could simply make a color copy of the maze. We ordered another maze book with a maze every other page (blackout pages between) and while my son likes those okay, the mazes don't have a description/theme, aren't in color, far fewer mazes and not as creative/fun.

Very good book. Hold 3 year old maze lover's attention ...

Very good book. Hold 3 year old maze lover's attention fully!

I have 3 year old(soon to be 4 by next month) who recently started to have interest in mazes. I needed something to hold his attention for 45 minutes, twice a week for his older siblings music lessons. I also bring some back ups(sticker books, crayons and etc.) but this book alone has his full attention for 45 mins. I would love to buy another edition from this publisher if any is available.
