Before Dawn, What Dangers Lurk in the Darkness?
For nine months, since a devastating solar flare caused a complete failure of the electrical grid, Shelby Sparks and her diabetic son, Carter, have been living at the ranch of Shelby's high school sweetheart, Max Berkman. Mostly insulated from the chaos surrounding them, Shelby and Max discover that the Texas government has fled the capitol and is barely maintaining control of the state. The governor needs volunteers to search for the new federal government, but no one knows exactly where it might be located—if it even still exists—or what perils await those brave enough to take on the mission. Compelled by Carter's desperate need for insulin and their God-given sense of duty, Shelby and Max answer the governor's call and set out on a treacherous 600-mile journey, where they will experience the terrifying effects of unrestrained anarchy. If they have the faith and fortitude necessary to reach their destination, what will they find when they get there? In this thrilling conclusion to the Remnant trilogy, America is left teetering between total collapse and the dawn of a new and vastly different reality.

Fantastic! Couldn't put this down
Do you ever have a moment when you finish a book and you find that you have a lack of words to adequately describe how you feel? I'm struggling with how to explain the loss that I feel in saying goodbye to these characters. I'm really not ready to let them go. I wanted to keep journeying with them.
Light of Dawn is the conclusion to The Remnant series, written by Vannetta Chapman. This series is a believable dystopian series that explores the collapse of society following a solar flare that takes out the power grid across the world.
It's your typical post-apocalyptic chaos you'd expect in dystopian fiction so why am I struggling with expressing my feelings?
I don't want to ruin this story for you and perhaps I'm saying too much. But, this book explores the idea of finding happiness in whatever situation that you're in. I appreciate that the author didn't tie everything up with a neat little bow and make everything right. I don't want to give spoilers but how many times do you read a book and everything is resolved and perfect and the characters find some semblance of happiness when the source of their conflict is resolved. What if things don't get better? What if they cannot? Shouldn't one strive to put their trust and happiness in God in spite of their circumstances?
These characters touched my heart. I felt their fears, their losses, and their love. I followed them through their darkest moments and watched them emerge with a stronger faith in God and love for one another.
I've just one big problem with this series and that is that I'm done with it. It's over. I don't want to say goodbye to Shelby, Max, and the rest of the remnant. I'm just not ready and I'm not sure if I ever will be.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. All opinions are my own.

Hate for the series to end
I think I've heard that this is the last of the Remnant Series from Vannetta. I have loved this series so much more than I thought I would. It took me so long to actually buy the first book, but once I did, I've been hooked.
This book ties up the ends for the most part, but I think there could be more visits to these characters! (Hey Vannetta, are you listening?) The primary message I got from this particular book is that faith in God and His mercy will carry us through our trials, and though we might not see God at the very moment of the crisis we will be able to look at our path once it's over and see how He has worked. And I loved how the characters in the story never gave up on each other, and always had the greater good for the whole group in mind.

LIGHT OF DAWN
I haven't read anything by Vanetta Chapman, but the idea of what would happen when the power went out intrigued me. Plus, I have heard rave reviews about this series. The writing was top notch with enough details for me to visualize the setting and the emotions of the characters. As for Shelby and Max, it was nice to see how much faith they had in each other and the strength they had to try to find the Remnant again. The romance between the two came to a head near the end of the novel, and will make, I believe, every romance reader happy. The plot is a totally different thing. While I believe with the power going out and the confusion and death that will occur that Chapman portrayed, I struggled with staying involved with the plot. Not that the world really couldn't turn this harmful. It just didn't capture my attention like I wanted it to. Every moment Shelby and Max were running into someone who could potentially harm them. There really weren't that much down time for the characters to do anything but be on the hunt for something or someone. If you enjoyed this series by Chapman, I highly recommend Terri Blackstock's A Restoration Novel series, with Last Light, Night Light, True Light, and Dawn's Light or Amanda G. Steven's Haven Seeker's Series with Seek and Hide, Found and Lost, Take and Give, and Far and Near. Now these stories captured my attention more.
I received a complimentary copy of Light of Dawn by Vanetta Chapman from Harvest House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.

OUTSTANDING!
The third and final installment, Light of Dawn in Vannetta Chapmans Remnant series, had me captivated from page 1. Our band of family and friends from Abney Texas return to help find the government that seems to be MIA in the US. A lot has happened since the solar flare took away life and law as we know it. The survivors are living and learning the way their ancestors did. Some are better at it than others.
Nine months after the solar flare, life at High Fields Ranch is routine considering the circumstances. Each member of the community has various jobs to keep life liveable but that is about to change. Max, Shelby, and friends have been recruited by the Governor of Texas to find the new federal government location. It will be a dangerous mission but many lives are dependent on it. Our team heads out into the lawless countryside to fulfill their mission. What they encounter is frightening, surprising, and thought provoking. Through their strong faith and commitment to mankind, they face the unknown fortified with The Word and their unfailing bond with each other. You must read the novel yourself to appreciate what they went through.
This book was a very emotional read for me. The characters had become real people in my mind and I truly cared about their well being. I celebrated their victories, shed tears through their pain, and held onto deep faith with them as they traveled through the valley of the shadow of death. Through it all, always burning, was His eternal light and His promise of hope for better things to come. I am saddened this is the last book because I learned so much about what a monumental disaster would look like and the possible effect it could have on people. I also learned a lot about my own fears during a situation like this. But more than anything, I was comforted by the fact that I will never walk alone, for He is with me through it all! Please pick up a copy of this 5 star book and travel the road with the Abney crew, you will be happy you did!
I received an ARC ebook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Great Ending to Remnant Series
I was first introduced to Vannetta Chapman with her Remnant Series, and I have not been disappointed. I've had the pleasure of reading all three books. Vannetta crafts stories that keeps the reader turning pages and longing for more. Believe me, it's been difficult to wait until the next book came out. :)
In this last book, Shelby Sparks finally is put face-to-face with all the fears and the baggage she has been carrying since the start of Deep Shadows. She is forced to let go of her son, Carter, and trust that God will take care of him - something each of us face in our parenting journey.
Max Berkman has been in love with Shelby since they were both in high school. When he and Shelby are asked to go along on a trip to find the federal government, he doesn't even hesitate. They leave on the 600-mile ominous journey, not knowing if they will ever return to the ranch where Max's parents live.
Light of Dawn is a delightful conclusion to the Remnant Series and leaves the readers with a sense of hope for the future.
If I had to pick just one book in the series I liked the most, Light of Dawn is by far, my favorite. I highly recommend this dystopian series. It is both thought-provoking and entertaining. You won't be disappointed.

Compelling Search for a New World
My expectations for this final volume of the Remnant series were high - but once again, Vannetta Chapman has exceeded them. The Light of Dawn is satisfying on both emotional and practical levels as a tight band of friends seeks security and direction in a world spinning out of control after a solar flare.
"We are going to weather this. Together, we will find a way." So opens the excerpts from Shelby Sparks' journal, and Georgia's wise words to her are a prophecy fulfilled within the pages of this gripping book. Though they face incredible obstacles (I don't want to give away too much here), their love for each other and their faith in an unchanging God give them the strength to persevere. Max and Shelby's life-long relationship is refined in the fires of this world-wide calamity. And her concern for her diabetic son, Carter, also undergoes a dramatic shift as he matures from boy to man. He has his own crisis of faith which he shares with Max, who wisely mentors him: "When you're completely lost, when you have no idea what comes next or why things are happening, faith is what gets you through....you keep doing the things you know in your heart are the right things. That's faith, Carter. It's not the absence of questions. It's continuing day in and day out, in spite of those questions." Like so many passages in this book, that counsel spoke to my heart (even with an intact electrical grid!).
This book had my heart racing, my eyes tearing up, my hands reaching to pick it up again for "one more chapter" long after I should have gone to bed. Dystopian fiction is not my usual genre, but this series stretched my understanding of what it physically possible/probable, and how I'd like to prepare in reaction to it. Far beyond accumulating prepping supplies, I want faithful priorities to motivate my choices in every situation. This series made me examine my view of the world and my place in it - and there's no higher use of fiction, in my mind.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher (I bought the previous books in the series), and I was not required to post a review. Five stars, only because I couldn't find six!

What a wonderful conclusion to an amazing series!
If you haven't started reading The Remnant, you should. And if you've been waiting for the complete series before you begin, you can now read the whole thing. And you should!
A natural catastrophe that knocks out the entire power grid would have huge implications on our lives, and it's not an impossibility. Shelby, Max, and their friends have endured much in the nine months since the flare. Their experiences leave you pondering your own reactions to the trials this collapse would bring.
But more than just the inconvenience of the loss of all modern technology, the characters must deal with their God. How could a good God allow this devastation? Why didn't He spare them? Is He even still listening to their cries?
Light of Dawn brings the series to a close in such a fabulous way. You'll probably still be thinking about the ramifications of an event like that happening in reality, but hopefully you'll face it with the reminder that even if such a thing were to occur, God is still good. Because whatever trials we face in life, we don't face alone if we are following Him!
(I received a complimentary copy of this novel. The thoughts expressed here are entirely my own.)

Powerful!
The third book in The Remnant Series wraps up a course of necessary actions for survival in the throes of a solar flare. The entire electrical grid has been destroyed, leaving people helpless and hopeless. Survival of the fittest can only be accomplished by resourceful and well developed plans of action.
This last book in the series is as powerful as the previous stories leading up to this compelling and complex way of life in a whole new world. Adapting to life after the flare is portrayed realistically and powerfully.
This is an unforgettable and ingenious portrayal of life after the flare that would affect all of humanity in the most paramount manner. I have found myself anticipating how I would react to the situations presented in the event that we are subjected to a horrific event such as this. The northern lights now haunt me! It could happen!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for my reading pleasure, with no expectations for a positive review. All expressed opinions are my own.
