Description

Review “Of all bestselling authors, Koontz may be the most underestimated by the literary establishment. Book after book, year after year, this author climbs to the top of the charts. Why? His readers know: because he is a master storyteller and a daring writer, and because, in his novels, he gives readers bright hope in a dark world.”— Publishers Weekly ,starred review From the Paperback edition.

Features & Highlights

  • From the celebrated imagination of Dean Koontz comes a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time. If you think you know the legend, you know only half the truth. Here is the mystery, the myth, the terror, and the magic of…
  • DEAN KOONTZ’S CITY OF NIGHT
  • They are stronger, heal better, and think faster than any humans ever created–and they must be destroyed. But not even Victor Helios–once Frankenstein–can stop the engineered killers he’s set loose on a reign of terror through modern-day New Orleans. Now the only hope rests in a one-time “monster” and his all-too-human partners, Detectives Carson O’Connor and Michael Maddison. Deucalion’s centuries-old history began as Victor’s first and failed attempt to build the perfect human–and it is fated to end in the ultimate confrontation between a damned creature and his mad creator. But first Deucalion must destroy a monstrosity not even Victor’s malignant mind could have imagined–an indestructible entity that steps out of humankind’s collective nightmare with one purpose: to replace us.

New Voice Artist, and annoying repetition *Spoilers, maybe*

I hate it when the audio books in a series switch voice artists. I started listening to this book right after I listened to the first and it kind of jolted me out of the world. It took me a few tracks to get use to it but Lloyd does a great job!

I'm nearly done with this book, and I have to say, I hope the next is better. I'm finding the repetition of how the new race hates the old race really tiresome. The constant referring to gory rituals... I've read a lot of Dean Koontz and this isn't is usual style, sure he uses some gore, but it always has a point. This feels gratuitous. I really hope that this is just a book setting up a lot of plot to be carried out because frankly I'm kind of bored.

The only thing saving this from being a two star review is the fact that all of the characters have the Dean Koontz touch. I care about all the good guys, the bad guys are fun to hate, and the other characters are really interesting!
