Disappointing.

I was disappointed in this one. After books one and two being so good, I was excited for this series. Book 3 was a "phone in" IMO. I found this book at my library after asking for the series in eBook format. I find a lack in character development, the paragraphs simplistic and rushed. I felt like I was reading Jack and Judy in elementary school. I'm not sure I will buy anymore of this series. The next book has a potential feud with the Mormon church and may get back on track for a good authentic western. I hope so.

I did enjoy the author's early Westerns but later ones are list family stories!

Dusty is no longer with us and I feel bad rating this story one star. But it is more about family and details about the West and no real plot: Just a bunch of things happening with lots of pages. I have three more of the Byrnes Family books and I plan to read them... but I don't expect to enjoy them. I had the same problem with Richard Wheeler, a good Western writer until he went historical more than action Westerns.

and a pretty sappy one

A romance novel, and a pretty sappy one, at that. Definitely not a western.
