Worst Narrator Ever- totally ruins the story!

Wow I am Stunned at all the positive reviews...this audio version is horrible!!! I listen to a lot of audio books while I work, and I have never heard such an awful narrator. He has about 3 pat & sensationalist ways to read a sentence - and he rotates through them throughout the story, no matter what's actually happening or what the intonation Should be. It is embarrassing! LIke a robot who can't understand the meaning. I cannot believe that producers let this slide for such a successful book, let alone that Scott Peck even gets work. He has totally ruined the story for me, which seems like a good one if you can listen to the words behind the smug voice - but the whole point of audio versions is to bring the story To Life, not Kill it.

Bridget's Review

A thief, Luther, got more than he bargained for when he visited a mansion in Virginia thinking he could make it out of there with a few prize pieces. He becomes trapped in the wall when two people being having an intimate moment. The shocking part is the murder that takes place and it has to do with the US president.

Jack is an attorney and he is determined to find out what really happened that night. Who is telling the truth, a burglar or the man entrusted with the most powerful job in America?

Political thrillers have a way of wrapping themselves around my brain and not letting go until I have finished the whole story. David's work is no exception. He has a way of taking you from point A to point Z and keeping the suspense at just the right level.

The story is really good but the guy who reads this is awful. No inflection, like he was reading the side of a ceral box.

Not my favorite.

The unabridged version is not holding my attention.

His first effort lacks potency.

His first novel and it shows. Sometimes the dialogue drags along with unnecessary "fluff", but a great introduction to Baldacci. I am not enamored by Scott Brick as the reader; his stye is annoying and overly emphatic!

Compelling

The book was strong, hard hitting, and compelling, especially for his first book. Interesting in how it ended differently than the movie. I have enjoyed some of Baldacci's other books more, probably as much to do with the reader for this book and the amount of language used. easy to see how absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Once read very good, Second time better

I remember when a Fellow Elk introduced me to his nephew, David and handed me an advance copy of this book. It had been a long time since I had read a book in a single sitting, for many reasons, but this time I could not put it down. It was the beginning of a long relationship.I went on reading with the last man standing and lo & behold, a new character was born out the Nam Era, Oliver Stone.

I never could understand where the "Camel Club" name came from, but I beleive that no other could fit. It was a new adventure and every book was as good or better than the one before.

I can't remember any of his books that I cannot talk good about it.
