Description

"Baldacci has crafted another terrific tale with two great protagonists. Just when the story line seems to veer into familiar areas, Baldacci steers it into another shocking direction. This is the best book yet in the series."― Associated Press "David Baldacci's latest thriller is not only highly relevant, it is also well timed. And the details seem so real that it's hard not to wonder if the author is an insider; the tone is that authentic. An absolute page-turner, KING AND MAXWELL is Baldacci at the pinnacle of his game."― BookReporter.com " King and Maxwell is a great starting place if you haven't read this Baldacci series. Once you're done with this one, you'll be so curious...that you probably will read them all."― Omaha World-Herald " King and Maxwell continues to push the plot envelope, raising the stakes both structurally and emotionally . . . Nobody gets you turning the pages better than Baldacci and he's at the height of his powers here. A wondrously constructed and rivetingly told tale."― Providence Sunday Journal "Great entertainment...another winner from [a] story-telling pro."― Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star (VA) DAVID BALDACCI is a global #1 bestselling author, and one of the world's favorite storytellers. Good Read for the most part BUT!!

I am halfway through the last book in this series & so far it has been good. A little unbelievable that Michelle could do all the physical things she does, but it does move the plot line along. I have just read a line that made my jaw clinch however. It had to do with the military salute. “This was a NO SALUTE ZONE” Outside maybe but they were in a hallway in a building! You never salute in a building, or in a covered walkway outside for that matter. If you don’t have a cover on there is no need to salute. This may seem trivial but that kind of stuff, not to mention false medical situations drive me crazy. They make me write reviews. If you don’t know what the correct procedure is, you’re OK enjoy the book, otherwise you’ll be thinking about it till the end like me (talk about your mood killer)!PS you can’t talk if you are on a ventilator and you don’t use a defibrillator if you are flat lined ( you need a shockable rhythm). Flat line is no rhythm at all! Another pet peeve of mine. I wish authors would acknowledge reality. Poetic license can only go so far.

The work of a lazy writer who know he can take the money and run

The plotting is convoluted and contrived, the dialogue is beyond inane and the story has zero believability. I don't expect a thriller to read like a work of non-fiction, but you need to have some sense that it is at least remotely plausible - there is no plausibility here whatsoever. The investigative technique consists of (1) making wild guess based on absolutely no evidence, and. of course, always being correct. (2) Pissing off everybody insight, including CIA, FBI, DoD, DHS, etc, and having them immediately tell you everything they know (yeah, that;s what I do when someone piss me off!) (3) Go to the requisite geek who can immediately find out anything anywhere. Baldacci has raised hacking to pure black magic. I'm not sure how I managed to finish it (albeit with much skimming, especially toward the end), and I'm sorry I did.

King and Maxwell doing their thing-surviving under impossible odds and finding out what most don't want them to know for a teen

King and Maxwell see a teen running down a road in a storm with a gun in his hand and that begins their involvement in finding out what happens to his dad in Afghanistan. There is lots of confusion at first when all the "alphabets" get in on the act telling them to leave the kid alone (do they ever listen?) and they have to decide if the dad is alive or dead, a patriot or a traitor but they decide to press on and with Edgar's (genius) help prevail. "All is well that ends well" and the only weak link I found was the villain's end goal - pretty pathetic for all the killing, etc. that went on and all he gave up.
Baldacci used this story as a means to bring Edgar into the employ of King and Maxwell as he is on the TV show which he wasn't in the book series which is all to the good as he is too good a character to lose. I enjoy these characters and this story added more depth to them and I especially liked getting a glimpse at King's ex-wife and their past and present relationship.

I don't think this book was supposed to be campy

Wow. Could this book have been more juvenile? This book was like an episode of the old Batman TV series. All characters were there to either be saved or assist in the clean up after Batman and Robin did all the dirty work. And what heroes they were! Throw a rock from thirty feet and knock a guy out. Hear sounds no one else can hear. Shoot more accurately. Swim better. The super talents of these two were never ending.

And oh, the violence. Shootouts and explosions galore. Lots of close calls for our two non-caped crusaders.

The dastardly bad buy was seeking revenge for some incident 25 years ago and striking out against a victim whom he knew had nothing to do with the incident.

It's hard to believe that Baldacci wrote this to appeal to his usual readership. Actually, it's hard to believe that Baldacci wrote this at all.

King and Maxwell Series

So far have read a number of Baldacci series including King and Maxwell. Definitely good but the ending left a bit to be desired. Worth the read however.
