Beautiful illustrations, unfortunately flawed text

This richly illustrated and beautifully printed book has only one unfortunate flaw: the text is Lewis Mercier's incomplete and error-filled public domain translation. If the publisher had stepped up to one of the vastly superior modern translations it would be perfect, if a bit more expensive. But as it is I still heartily recommend it for O'Connor's many color and monochrome illustrations, which are true to Jules Verne's novel.

A wonderful Classic.

A wonderfully illustrated version of the Jules Verne classic. Pages of original illustrations by William O'Connor, both in color and black and white, make this a must have book for anyone who enjoys the classic tale, and appreciates the artwork.

Reading for now, and an investment for the future

Just like the other poster my book also did not come with the ribbon marker. The others in the set did, but this book is not exactly like the others either in that the illustrator is also different. However, the lack of the ribbon has no bearing on the quality of the book in regards to materials, construction or content. The pages are of thick cardstock and the dust jacket is just fantastic! The illustrations really bring the story to life. And the story is of course riveting. A GREAT classic!! This edition is one of those books that will be an heirloom. It is hardy enough in construction to endure and the story will be relevant forever. Again a wonderful classic presented in such a way to rival the characters and plot. I would gladly recommend this book and the others in the series, and as a mom of five and a nanny to many this book can be appreciated and enjoyed for many, many years. A great investment to encourage reading, creative writing and most especially time with your children reading together!!

Great story. Wonderful illustrations.

This is a beautiful edition of a wonderful story. The illustrations are perfect and add so much to the enjoyment of the book. I bought this as the newest book in my grandchildren's collection of .the wonderful Sterling Illustrated Classics series. The copy I received had no ribbon bookmark which was a disappointment, but not a big deal. This book, as all the others in this series, makes a wonderful gift.

Masterpiece After Illustrated Masterpiece

Fantastic! This is a joy to own. I've been a big William O'Connor fan for a while now and he doesn't disappoint here! The book is well-bound and has a high print quality. It's larger then I realized (which is a plus as well), and the pages have a very neat "weathered parchment" print on them. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
