So, basically I was confined to making scarves, very simple ones. And that's OK, but I just wanted to feel like I could increase, decrease, and crack the code of knitting patterns. So, even though I owned other knitting books, I got this one because the illustrations of techniques looked really good. And they are! I have gone through all of the techniques on straight needles so far, looked through the patterns, and feel so much more confident. I have made a sampler scarf for my teddy bear (small is good for testing things and not so time consuming, in my opinion) and I was able to cast on with two needles, knit, purl, increase, decrease, do moss, stockinette, and ribbing stitches, and cast off. I even ended up experimenting a bit with stockinette and made a basketweave/checkerboard section. I'm looking forward to trying the double pointed needle and circular needle sections. The illustrations are great and most of the patterns are ones that I look forward to making! And they can all be made using the stitches learned in the beginning. So, no learning the techniques only to discover you need ten more stitches to do the projects. Instead everything matches what you've learned. I know you can learn knitting online, but I like to sit down with a book to do these things. It's just my preference.
