A light and fluffy first volume.
First, in this volume there are no witches, let alone seven of them. Now, I'm guessing they come along later, but for now... there is an absence of witches. As for what is in the book...
The main story has to dow with some body swapping. As far as stories like this go, I actually found it pretty entertaining. The main cast is relatively small at this point, so the few cast members that are present are given some time to breathe and grow a little. It helps a lot. The manga-ka takes her time developing things, and revealing what is going on. There is also a heavy focus on comedy. Most of it is effective, and the general tone of the book is pretty up beat and easy. There is some mild fan service in this volume, but most of it is used for comedic effect.
The art is attractive and expressive. Not just in the facial features, but in the whole characters' body. This is key to helping keep the reader clued in to who is in whose body. All of the characters are distinct and easy to identify. There are not a ton of backgrounds, or background detail, but for a book that focuses more on characters talking, they aren't really missed.
In the end I would recommend Yamada-Kun and the Seven Witches. It's fun, light and so far, pretty inoffensive. Give it a go. Who knows, you might like it.

I liked the start
Miki Yoshikawa’s “Yamada-Kun And The Seven Witches,” follows the titular character, Yamada-kun, who is a problem child at his school. Most, if not all, the students there feared him, but one day, he discovers he has a supernatural power. This manga follows the events that unfold after he discovers said power. Now, what power is that?
Well, Yamada has the ability to trade places with one of his classmates, honor student, Urara Shiraishi, after exchanging a kiss with her. Yep, that seems abut right. Got to love manga. Anyway, you’d think what followed the body switch would be all fanservice-y groping and ecchi (sexual) comedy, and there is a bit, but that’s not all.
Yoshikawa-sensei’s world isn’t all fanservice and silly comedy. Surprisingly, she tackled things like bullying and harassment during the body switch. I can’t say I was expecting that. We see how the two of them handle problems for the other, and the fallout from said events. Granted, there are a bit of childish antics happening in the first volume when another student finds out about Yamada and Urara’s power, but since I already saw the anime, I knew it was coming. That said, I heard that a lot of people didn’t like the introduction of the student council member who found out about the switching power. I disagree.
Is he my favorite character? No, but that’s mainly due to me not really being a fan of pervy characters. And yes, most adolescents are pervs in some form or fashion, but to rifle through a girl’s underwear and lay in her bed without permission is a too much. Even if it’s only done for comedic effect. I’m not one for cheap comedy like that. Yoshikawa-sensei has created an interesting setting though, and I’m looking forward to continuing this series. I enjoyed the anime, and it’s what led me to buy the first five volumes of this manga. I like the characters, and I’d like to see what else happens down the road with Yamada-kun.
If you want to experience some mostly wholesome comedy and possible romance subplots, give Yamada-kun And The Seven Witches a read.

Great!
This is an excellent first volume. I have read many mangas in my life and it was nice to see something somewhat original. The story isn't strong, it's mostly focused on two characters and the start of the series, I am excited to see where it goes. The art is wonderful, the characters are decent, I personally like the two main characters a lot, and the plot is just starting if there is one. Definitely check it out, I think there is an anime being aired so I may check that out eventually.

This didn't use to be ecchi + harem crap but now it is
Here is my 5/10 mangaupdates review for most of the series up till now: The manga had a fine first arc about the said witches and reached a clear ending point which is surprising as the authors previous work was lame. Then the manga went on cuZ of money and committed suicide to become a ecchi harem shell of it's former self. The new anime should go for that ending point and i could thus recommend that version. You know now when to stop or if you should even start. I went on for a few more volumes after the original arc but only sleep inducing nudity, sexual harassment and an unmoving romance subplot showed up BUT no humor, narrative or purpose were to be found so i dropped it about a year ago and will only read the last chapter of which i expect nothing. Flying Witch (8/10) / Ran to Haiiro no Sekai (8,5/10) are good modern manga about witches and the classic Angel Densetsu (10/10) is a perfect high-school comedy. Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei (9/10) is lastly the final word on harem.

Great, funny romance manga
Great, funny romance manga. I usually don't find romance manga that interesting, but the premise of this manga and how well it is executed is respectable. Definitely worth a read.
