A Must Have Book For Wire Weavers
This is a great book full of projects many of us who have taken classes from Sarah have wanted to learn. I have been lucky enough to have taken classes from Sarah for seven years. I am use to her photographs for her tutorials so some of the drawings confused me a bit. I worked it out. With classes and the book I have done all the tutorials in this book. Yes it can be done! I am posting a few photos. The Tempest Clasp isn’t there other than in other projects. I must have been given it to a friend.
This book well worth getting. The projects are intermediate to advance but there is so much information that any level could use. A must have book for the wire weaver.

This book is a mess
Third project in and I have had to basically rewrite the book. Measurements are off, instructions do not follow example pictures. It asks you to form already work hardened metals in ways that result in breakage. The weaving patterns are poorly explained. Diagrams for critical steps are missing. The diagrams showing steps are not workable and do not match her finished example pieces. This book is a mess.

The Wire Whisperer
There are many jewelry artists who shape, weave, and sculpt using wire. Sarah Thompson is one of the greatest. She not only teaches extremely clearly, she designs with such beauty that viewing her pieces is a transporting experience. How does she do it? This book will teach you how!
Woven in Wire is the author's second book on wire weaving.
In this book, you will discover how inspirational wire weaving can be. Her projects are extraordinary and breathtaking. Her style is sometimes symmetrical, sometimes organic, and always visionary.
Her introduction explains her first book was more for beginners. In this book, the reader must be devoted to carefully practicing in order to achieve the techniques which will be taught. The author shares all of her techniques, her master designs, and her preferred tools and materials so that the reader can learn how to weave and create in the skilled manner used.
Thompson is completely dedicated to her readers. As one of them, you will soon find that this book is an amazing, beautiful, and wonderful foray into wire weaving.
Necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings are all here to delight. The photos are extremely clear and beautiful.
Each piece is displayed on an exquisitely dimensional background of white and gray shapes,. At times these are parts of cones, balls, triangles or cubes. The simplicity never detracts from the beauty of each gaspingly stunning project. It is as if you are reading an art book, only better, because you will then be able to learn how to make what you see. The silver pieces gleam from these photos. There are excellent tech drawings as well; don't worry. In the beginning of the book, you will even see photos of the author's fingers shaping and weaving the wire.
Although each of the projects is designed of silver wire, also incorporated are occasional beads such as gemstones, lustrous pearls, sparkling crystals, or even chain. If you like the cover of this book, which is titled "Aries"(now look at it again and you will see why!), you will love all of the projects.
After the author's introduction, the book continues, simply separated as follows: Tools, Materials, Techniques, Weaving, Sculpting, Symmetry, and Transformation. At the end Woven in Wire arrives at acknowledgements, an excellent selection of resources, and information about the author.
The Sculpting and Symmetry chapters have most of the projects, but before you arrive at them, you will have already learned a lot, technique-wise.
In Transformation, there are only two offerings but they are total wows! These are the Acantha Necklace, and the Ada Necklace. I was overwhelmed by their loveliness. Each contains elements of other, previous, projects, but they are complex. Read carefully as the author explains how to accomplish these beautiful pieces.
To single out certain pieces from Woven in Wire is almost impossible for this reviewer. Each one is too beautiful.
The Aries Necklace, as seen on the cover and explained inside, is a very dramatic, stunning, and fabulous piece.
I also love the author's undulating Tidal Wave ring, found in the Sculpting section. I would wear this every day very proudly! It has a dreamy, sensual quality and speaks profoundly of the sea. Appropriately, it even holds a pearl captive!
From the Sculpting chapter I was drawn to the Lauren Earrings, symmetrical and dramatic. As Thompson says, these are "a great way to practice using graph paper to check your symmetry". These earrings are so pretty and a wonderful educational project.
Woven in Wire is a book to apprentice yourself to. If you are a serious learner, and want to get better at your craft, immediately get ths book for your jewelry design library. If you are wondering how to discover what the next step in your jewelry journey will be, get this book. Nothing is too hard if you love it. Sculptural weaving mini masterpieces
This book is a beautiful combination of wire sculpture and creating wide textured "ribbons" of metal that you can then twist and sculpt into fabulous shapes. Along with the wire many of the projects include beads as lovely accents. Excellent step by step tutorials for each projects and general techniques for wire work and wire weaving.

Hers are my favorite books on wire weaving
I love the designs. They are complicated and you have to master a lot of techniques to make them, but this is a great guide to get started picking up the skills. It's a good idea to re-read the tips section every now and then—I keep finding stuff I had forgotten. I'm working on a project now that's really above my level, so I'm going slow and re-reading a lot. It helps to visualize the weave in your head before you start. Practice is what gets you there. If I could make one change it would be to have larger close-ups of the weaves, but you can find some of them online.
