"From the moment she first showed up in Broken Ferns as a side character in the Lei Crime Series, Sophie Ang captivated me with her unique combination of outrageous talent, physical courage, and emotional vulnerability. Her love life is complicated, her cases complex, and her path to growth uncertain and potholed. My first fictional girl-crush on my own character has happened: I've got it bad for Sophie Ang, and you will, too!"~Toby Neal Kirkus Reviews calls Neal's writing, "persistently riveting. Masterly." Excellent Crime Drama

Sophie Ang works security for a private firm. As she’s watching a royal Hawaiian archaeological site, bored out of her mind, the place experiences an attempted break-in. She chases the would-be intruder, but loses him in the neighborhood surrounding the site.

Within this introduction, author Toby Neal tells us some very important facts that will foreshadow future events. Sophie is a former FBI agent. She is now divorced from a very dangerous man. And, for some reason, the intruder is after human bone hooks. While bone hooks, commonly used in fishing by the ancient Hawaiians, these made from human bones were supposed to contain mana, a spiritual connection to their ancestors. Is someone after something to be sold on the black market, or is he or she after certain bone hooks that supposedly contain mana?

Ms. Neal is an exceptional author. She draws us into her Hawaiian world with incredible skill. She explores her characters backgrounds with a unique insight. In addition to her well-rounded characters, she draws us into the action of a crime drama with breath-taking amazement. I have never had any problem with this author’s ability to plot an excellent story.

There are a few editing errors, but they are so minor they aren’t worth mentioning. If you pick up any book by Toby Neal, it’s worth your time. You’ll definitely enjoy this book.
