When he's not writing, he's taking people out for charters on his lobsterboat. He is the author of Hauling Through, Sweating Through, and But I Digress.

Features & Highlights

  • Zachary Webster was an innocent Maine farm boy before becoming a sharpshooter, but the violence of the Civil War battlefields has turned him into a natural killer. While home on his unit’s month-long furlough, he murders the man he believes has stolen his beloved. In doing so, he sets into motion three intensely dark journeys—his own as a soldier returning to a brutal and hopeless war; his sweetheart’s as she seeks absolution; and the brother of the murdered man, whose quest for revenge propels him into the most violent of worlds. When the three find each other amid the chaos and brutality of the Battle of the Wilderness, they’re faced with figuring out if they are tempered enough from their own redemptive ordeals to face whatever uncertain future awaits them after the bloody fighting is over.

Outstanding read!

This book was absolutely outstanding!

firstly thank you to NetGalley.com and Black Rose Writing for giving me a copy of this book.

I have always loved history and in particular, have developed a penchant for military history. This has drawn me many times to the American civil war, of which I have read so many books over the years I have lost count. However, this book stands out from all of them and will have a place in my heart and on my bookshelf forever.

Where Eagles Dare Not Perch is a riveting read from start to finish. It does not sugar-coat the horrors of war with glory or honour but rather shows it for the hell on earth that it truly is; that it makes wraiths of even the strongest people, that it destroys lives, homes, communities, faith, and hope. Nobody escapes unscathed from war, be that physically, mentally or both. This is truly a study of the human condition as it follows three intensely dark journeys - the main characters own journey as a soldier returning to a brutal and hopeless war; his sweetheart’s journey as she seeks absolution; and the brother of a murdered man, whose quest for revenge propels him into the most violent of worlds. It is a story of lust, revenge, forgiveness, and acceptance. I cannot recommend it enough and will be reading more by this author for sure.

“Where Eagles Dare Not Perch”

One becomes a participant in a segment of the Civil War. Peter Bridgford takes you inside the main characters. I have enjoyed two of his earlier books, “Hauling Through”and “But I Digress”. “Where Eagles Dare Not Perch” does not disappoint. Ron Gieger

Must read!

Absolutely brilliant! Peter Bridgford’s use of historical references and language build a deep background for dynamic engaging characters. Admittedly, Bridgford is one of my favorite authors but even if you haven’t read Hauling Through or But I Digress, you should absolutely read Where Eagles Dare Not Perch. It’s a well developed tale that pulls you into the time of the civil war and along the life’s journey of the book’s fascinating characters. A must read and not just historical fiction fans. It is a book that I hated to put down and had hoped wouldn’t end.
