About the Author Lizzie Page lives in a seaside town in Essex, England where she grew up. After studying politics at University, she worked as an English teacher, first in Paris and then in Tokyo, for five years.Back in England, she tried and failed various jobs, before enjoying studying a masters in creative writing at Goldsmiths College. Lizzie loves reading historical and modern fiction, watching films, and travelling. Her husband Steve, three lovely children, and Lenny the cockapoo all conspire to stop her writing!

Page digs deeply into human frailties.

There were many constructs that were explored through the characters in Page’s intriguing book: prejudice, class snobbery, anti-semitism, human frailty and courage, survival, creativity among other topics. As easy as it was to dislike some of the characters, and at times viewing them as flawed and unredeemable, I was also reminded that people can change and grow through “trials and tribulations.” Page’s splendid writing skills present us with some of the the worst attributes of societies, while causing us to look within and recognize our own frailties and flaws. Throughout her book, Page created a convincing story that illustrated the importance in recognizing our own shortcomings and being open to growth and change in how we treat others.
