Description

I want to wholeheartedly offer my deepest thanks to all those who've helped turn my first book into an Amazon post-apocalyptic/dystopian best-seller. I'm enthused that so many of you were (and still are) able to connect with the story. There is much, much more to come. What's Left of My World will always be my debut novel as a beginner author. That being said, the process of writing and self-publishing my freshman release wasn't only a major undertaking for me but a learning process as well - one that hasn't ended at the point of offering it for sale to the vast expanses of readers on Amazon.I'm practically dumbfounded even today at how remarkably robust, diverse, supportive, and opinionated my readers. I'm also astonished at how remarkably blind I was to have written a story with such potential while not having taken into consideration the impact each and every individual word might have on axa0totality of readers from every walk of life - from the front cover to the endxa0matter. Hindsight being what it is, I made a lot of rookie mistakes.I've received many accolades for What's Left of My World, but I've also obtained a fair share of negative commentary. I'm no stranger to criticism - both good and bad - and it is my intention to learn from both to become a better author - one able to write books that can appeal to a much broader audience in the [email protected]" With an EMP , almost everything powered by electricity would effectively be wiped out - not physically, but practically. Such things would simply cease to work...Sound like science fiction? It's understandable that some people would think so, especially anyone who has seen the flashy EMP attacks dramatized in TV shows such as '24.' Unfortunately, it's all too real. Why? Because an EMP isn't an altogether new, high-tech weapon. It's the same nuclear blast we've come to fear as a potential destroyer of our cities. It's just used in an alternate way.The difference: the location of the blast. In a conventional nuclear attack, the bomb is timed to explode close to the ground. The resulting radiation blast wreaks great physical damage. But with an EMP, the same kind of bomb is set to explode high in the air. When that happens, the blast doesn't level a city, but it does knock out the power grid, leaving the residents who have come to depend on it largely helpless."Edwin J. Features & Highlights

  • Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn’t even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended. Now, the skills she had been taught serve an essential purpose. They keep her and those she cares about alive.Even in the sparsely-populated mountains of West Virginia, where she and her family have been forced to relocate for their safety after the collapse, peril lurks around every corner. Normal life has taken on a whole new meaning for Lauren, her family, and the community they have become a part of. In this different world, the new status quo is self-preservation. There is no more middle ground. People either live, or they die.Lauren’s father didn’t make it home on the day the world changed forever, and she misses him more than anything. Now, in What’s Left of My World, she and her family must learn to endure life’s horrors—without him.

Extraordinary Book

This book is extraordinary, not only because of the author's very obvious intellect and advocacy of self-preservation, but also due to his interest in survival, family, leadership, love of nature, and love of humanity in this troubled world.

The author is an inspiration for writing this survival book and my only wish is that sequels were not such a time-consuming, difficult task. It shall be a very long wait for the first sequel.

WHAT'S LEFT OF MY WORLD exceeds any 5-star rating and should probably be rated in the 100-star range. I have read many survivalist stories and this one provides a quintessential lesson for all of us to learn and be grateful for.

I'm grateful to the author for his leadership, writing skills, and for teaching us how to prepare for the future, our families and friends. It is a "must" for all to read.

No really... this is the worst book I've read in the last ten years

I finished this book, but only because I was so fascinated by how terrible it was, that I just had to keep reading. It was like a car accident that you can't seem to make yourself look away from.

I am a huge fan of the genre and I made the huge mistake of letting Amazon recommend this book to me. I should have known better. Right in the author's note in the beginning, he references his appreciation for One Second After by William R. Forstchen. I had a dull sense of horror that started developing from that moment on, because One Second After is little more than a NeoCon's wet dream wrapped in a dull and predictable story.

This book is basically One Second After fanfiction. The editing is horrible. I absolutely guarantee that the writer did not have an editor. Hell, I'm not even convinced he had a second draft. The dialogue, in particular, is some of the cringiest stuff I have ever read in my life. It's almost like the writer has never listened to people talk before. The father sounds like Don S. Davis' character from Twin Peaks. But where as Garland Briggs was meant to be a stuffy and satirical character, this book plays it straight... to the hilarity and horror of the reader.

After first chapter or two it picked up.

First chapter or so was a little slow but picked up. I purchased audio so the curse words were a negative. They just seem unnecessary. Kevin Pierce did a good job narrating as usual.

Read it!

I bought this book for myself, i read the first chapter, then my 16 yo daughter stole it from me. She absolutely loved it, she even wrote a book report on it. I got her a signed copy of the second book, which arrived 2 days ago. She is beside herself with excitement over it! Thank you C. A. Rudolph for your story, and talent!

Most thought provoking, engaging series!

Let’s talk about wow. Rudolph is a fantastic writer. The way he plans out his story line, weeding each character together continues to keep the reader on their toes but also demonstrates his outstanding abilities as a writer. This book has become a guideline for my own life. It has brought on countless discussions between my husband and I and other family members we have forced to read and also loved.

Self published garbage

Yeah, writing must not be this author's best talent l

This 'book' is painful to endure

Cardboard cutout, two-dimensional characters, mind numbing dialog... most people will either purchase this or won't regardless the reviews, just keep in mind, buyer beware

Excellent start to the series!

Well crafted story in a setting that you can picture as you read. Love the characters and their connections with each other. So glad that it doesn't end on a cliff hanger, but even still I can't wait to dive into the next book.
