I bought this book in mid-August 2014 and like it so much that I bought three more copies to give away as Christmas presents. If you read the book in a year (or less), you'll have a solid foundation in the thought, writing and speaking of Papa Francis. The subjects are wide-ranging, though I would describe the most common theme as the desire Jesus has for sinners to come back to Him and His Great Merciful Heart:

"Jesus does not exclude anyone. Some of you, perhaps, might say to me: 'But, Father, I am certainly excluded because I am a great sinner: I have done terrible things; I have done lots of them in my life.' No, you are not excluded! Precisely for this reason, you are the favorite, because Jesus prefers sinners, always, in order to forgive them, to love them. Jesus is waiting for you to embrace you, to pardon you. Do not be afraid: he is waiting for you. ... For God, we are not numbers, we are important, indeed we are the most important thing to him; even if we are sinners, we are what is closest to his heart. ... If we - all of us - accept the Grace of Jesus Christ, he changes our heart and from sinners makes us saints. ... Jesus is all mercy, Jesus is all love ... he is The Lord of tenderness." (PP. 268, 315, 316, 343, 328.)

The Holy Father can also be very entertaining and even surprising:

"I feel like Tarzan and I feel strong" (P. 339)

"But please: never any sisters, never any priests with faces like 'chilis pickled in vinegar' - never!" (P. 300)

Very inspirational.

These daily devotions do make you 'think' about the various spiritual subjects addressed. I find them very inspirational. It also allows you to see the spiritual heart of Pope Francis. I am glad I purchased it. All pros. (The only con I see is its binding. I handle it with 'kid gloves' so to speak but it is still breaking apart. But don't let that stop you from buying it.) His insights are truly jewels. I would recommend this daily devotional to everyone.

A great help in supporting an encounter with Christ

This book of reflections has a passage from the writings/talks of Pope Francis for each day of the year and questions for prayer/meditation based on the reflection. The daily reflections/questions encourage and support a personal response and are intended to help people be more open the work of God in their lives.

Using this book every day, or at least several times a week, along with a short time of silent prayer will likely lead a person to grow closer to Christ and to experience his life and love more deeply in their life. The reflections (along with a time of prayerful thought on them) help me to encounter Christ and grow more faithful as a Christian. This is turn has supported my desire and ability to share the good news with others in a way that flows from normal encounters in my life.

This book of reflections is compiled by a member of FOCUS, a national ministry that is very successful in bringing college-aged people into a closer relationship with Christ. Thus, there is a practical experience in the choice of the reflections and questions that brings them to the heart of the passage and to the heart of the individual.

I thought this small book would be inspiring to read one small message from Pope Francis daily. I bought this for myself last year and enjoyed it so much I gave it to a couple of family members this Christmas.

Makes a wonderful gift

I gave this book to my mother and one of her friends. They both LOVE it, read it every day and gain inspiration and insight from this blessed man of mercy who walks his talk.

this is a great book if you are looking for a study guide

I probably should have read the product description more carefully: this is a great book if you are looking for a study guide. I thought it would just be the writings of Pope Francis (which are fantastic), but I didn't really enjoy the study blurb after each daily reading.

Actually, my mom liked it

She read the book in one sitting. I think that defeated the daily reflection purpose, but she apparently enjoyed it.

Disappointed

This is a very plain little book with no pictures and very brief daily readings. I bought it as a gift for my Mom, who loves this new Pope. It would have been much better with some nice pictures to meditate on, and more substantial daily readings. This book doesn't have a lot to offer, and is written at a very simplistic level.
