A Great Survival Guide

I pre-ordered this book for my son's birthday and was amazed at the amount of survival curricula included for the money. What a value! My son reads this book ALL THE TIME... the book's theme lends itself to ease of learning and application. On the same day my son received this book, he built a shelter lean-to and a Dakota hole fire pit by himself. All of the instruction is very sound survival training.

One of the nicest features of this book has to be the amount of pictures used to explain the techniques. When Creek is explaining something, there is no guesswork, fumbling over terminology and written prose; he provides plenty of pictures and illustrations to guarantee the reader's comprehension of the method at hand. The instruction is direct and well written, flows smoothly, and is a fun, quick read. As a result, kids and young ( as well as old) adults can easily learn survival, set to a popular theme.

The value of this book is in the quality of survival instruction the reader will learn upon the book's conclusion. There are loads of survival themed manuals, guides, tutorials, and books on the market. What I think sets this one apart is the ease of instruction in the books format. The reader, (in this case, my son and me), wants to learn more and this book makes survival methods easier to understand. I believe Mr. Stewart has proven himself as a capable survival author and teacher with this latest offering.

Highly recommended, especially as an introduction to survival training for young kids (both boys and girls). Boy Scouts and Scout Leaders should give this book a look as a supplemental reading for the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. A super introductory survival book for Girl Scout and 4H Leaders also.

The most amazing content you will find in any survival book!!!

This book certainly goes beyond surviving the Hunger games. I can't wait to get out and begin putting these new survival skills to use. I've never found another survival book with the amount of illustrations and photos that this one has. Many of these skills I have never even heard of before. This book will definitely be in my pack and bug out bag for future reference. Thanks Creek for passing on this wealth of information to us. I recommend this book to anyone who is SERIOUS about surviving in the wilderness.

Creek Knows His S@$t!!!!!!

This book provides the reader with very pertinent information that is relevant and very useful in any survival situation. It has many references to the Hunger Games which is a movie /book series about survival. I have attended 2 different survival courses that were taught by the author. The things that he has written in the book actually work when applied to the real world. I can attest to that with utmost certainty. Not only is the book educational, but also entertaining. I would recommend this book to the experienced survivalist as well as beginners. Creek Stewart knocked it out of the park with this book.

Stop the obsession!

You've foiled us once again Creek... Sadly your obsession with the movies/ books "Hunger Games" has disrupted what could've been a great snapshot for survival. Instead your referencing of Katniss and other characters only peak the interest of 15 year old girls. I lit up a cigar and opened a beer with great anticipation of what this title from you could bring. I was sorely disappointed. However, the basic knowledge & concepts ARE tried and trued. Having read ALL of your publications I doubt I'll keep up with your next release having been also disappointed with your bug out vehicle book.

Excellent book!

I love this book! I don't understand those who seem to get confused because he uses Hunger Games names & references. Big deal! I've never seen the movie or read the books but it presented no problem for me. Creek is a great Writer and for damn sure knows what he's talking about. His other book "Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag" is excellent too and is my go-to reference on the subject!

Highly recommended

I'm a huge fan of Creek Stewart. He had a very nice writing style and breaks things down so anyone can understand the various topics covered in his books. They are also quite entertaining to read. I would highly recommend his books to anyone getting into hiking, camping, wilderness survival, and prepping. These are great additions to a growing collection.

Great Survival Book - Especially for Teenagers

It's funny but I haven't seen the movie (yet) but I like how Creek has made survival something that young people can relate to. It's also a great affirmation to the power of young women (Katniss) along with other characters from the Hunger Games book/movie. Though I haven't seen the movie nor read the book I do get the gist of it from what others have told me about the series. I would like to read this entire book first then go watch the movie afterwards. At this point I own almost every book Creek Steward has written with exception to his first published Boy Scout manual and Stay Alive ! What is extra nice about this book is the quantity of illustrations. You can also get a free edible plant reference guide (18 pages) that's located at the back of this book. I like how Creek organizes the sections in his books and his writing style is easy to read. You literally can start and stop at any point of the book without feeling like maybe you might of missed something because it is written more like a reference manual.

Highly Recommend!

Creek Stewart has put together a comprehensive survival instructional and resources narrative that informs and somehow entertains. How do you do that? Well, tie it into a very popular movie. I found this creative book informative, and presented in a very readable and personable way. While I hope that it will spark a desire in younger readers, or fans, to become more self reliant in an emergency situation; I ordered this to help me refresh and improve my own skills. Living in a hurricane prone area, we face real life threats every year. I saw first hand how unprepared most of us were after Katrina and believe that more survival skills would have eased some of the suffering. But on a good note, good job!

informative

Not being a "Hunger Games' fan, I almost didn't purchase this book. I am so glad I did! It is full of information and tidbits on survival. There are photos of everything (which I love) and the author discusses every little last thing you would need to know to help you survive.

Not age appropriate

Hunger games directed toward the early teen market. This survival guide tries to reach that market as well. I read it first and chose NOT to give it to my 14 year old daughter. The survival guide presents incomplete information, potentially leading someone to a false believe they have skills necessary for survival. This is entertaining, and most will enjoy it for that end. If you loved the book series, this is a fun read, but not really a survival guide. I will give it 3 stars.
