Description

"I can see why so many people are enthusiastic about Yrsa's work. It's very engaging, fresh and exciting." --James Patterson"Two narratives converge on an exciting climax that testifies to Sigurdardóttir’s command of psychological nuance and bitter irony."-- Kirkus (starred) on The Undesired "A particularly propulsive...pleasurably creepy read, but beware: It may make you lose your sea legs for quite some time." --the Boston Globe on Silence of the Sea " Someone to Watch Over Me seductively weaves together two seemingly disparate stories." - -Cleveland Plain Dealer (Grade: A)"An involving, dark tale." -- Booklist on Someone to Watch Over Me "I Remember You combines an intricate mystery with a very frightening ghost story, and Sigurdardottir pulls it off well." --RT Book Reviews"Drives to a shattering climax that honors the traditions of both detective fiction and ghost stories." - -Kirkus Reviews on I Remember You " I Remember You ranks among the scariest, right up there with the best of Stephen King and Peter Straub. It's that good. And that scary. And, ultimately, that moving." --EarlyWord on I Remember You “A series that goes from strength to strength.” ― Crimepieces "A solid bet for fans of Scandinavian mysteries." ― Library Journal "Someone To Watch Over Me , just out, has already seen Yrsa Sigurdardóttir inevitably labeled 'Iceland's answer to Stieg Larsson." ― The Independent (UK) YRSA SIGURDARDÓTTIR (pronounced UR-suh SIG-ur-dar-daughter) lives with her family in Reykjavík; she is also a director of one of Iceland's largest engineering firms. Well Worth Reading and Keeping

This is a fascinating and riveting book. It alone demonstrates why Sigurdardottir is an international best selling author. She brings Iceland alive through stories and situations that are universal.

This book is the telling of two stories, once in current day and the other in 1974. The stories are connected by a contemporary project, but become closer and ultimately combined by the end of the book. Both stories, as with other sub-plots, are well-written and well-told.

I loved this book, a praise I rarely give. There were several nights when I could not bring myself to stop reading. Fortunately my heavy eyelids did.

Read this book if you enjoy well written and plotted mysteries, populated with realistic characters. Warning: You'll want to keep reading her other books too.

Incredibly Stupid!

A man takes his own life and that of his daughter because he discovers that she accidentally killed his ex-wife in a fit of anger defending him. REALLY! The life of an 11 year old is worth terminating for fear the "truth" will come out when only her doting grandmother and father know it? And is the penalty for involuntary manslaughter in Iceland so draconian that the girl would be institutionalized forever as the father fears? The entire novel is depressing throughout its entire length.

Not a Thriller

I've read most of Yrsa's translated work; I liked this one the best. It is billed as a "thriller", but it is really a slow-paced meditation on Icelandic culture. I was ready to give up on it but the last third of the book made it worthwhile. Not for all tastes.
