Features & Highlights

  • "Bob's Your Uncle" with the new revised edition of The UK to USA Dictionary - British English vs. American English. This handy guide is more than a dictionary of the "A to Zed" separating our common language. You may already know "boot" is the trunk, "bonnet" is hood, "lift" is elevator; but you may want to know what "toad in the hole," "bangers and mash," and "bubble and squeak" mean before ordering. Rhyming slang, pronunciation, spelling differences, conversion charts, cultural differences are just some of the extras. There's even a page on "UK Police Ranks and Abbreviations" to help those who read British authors or watch British films and TV. Great for travelers, Anglophiles, and expatriates on both sides "of the pond." "Take a shufti" inside - maybe you can "suss it out."

Fun to learn.

I had neighbors from the UK and was amused at all the different words they used. When he went to rent a buggy, he came back with a golf cart. Chips are not in a bag of lays, and he was insulted when I called him a bugger on the tennis court when he shot a ball past me. Guess it’s not a word you say around the children as his wife told me. We had a-lot of laughs. This dictionary is great for anyone traveling to the UK or visa versa. It’s a lot of fun to learn “the language”. The authors husband is from the UK so it’s very authentic. I would highly recommend!
