Sunset Detectives

This is the first Ron Base novel I have read. In this book, Base created interesting characters that moved the story along with dialog and relationship. The interactions between Tree Callister and the other characters are believable, and keep one moving through the story. I was hoping for more description of Sanibel Island itself, but the writing style of the book stands well just the way it is. I can empathize with Callister in trouble following him everywhere, though not in such dramatic ways.

Perfect mix of characters you can relate to, laugh out loud humor, hyperventilation-inducing terror (truly evil bad guys), and plot twists that sneak up on you from behind. If you read to be entertained, you want to make friends with Ron Base and Tree Callister.

The Sanibel Detective series are fun books - reading this was like taking a mini-break. With a big character in Tree C. and a steamy setting I was whisked away on a lovely escape from the cold and snow of a Canadian winter. I'm looking forward to the next one which sounds like it may include a dog!
