Thin on Plot and Character Development

The book’s premise had potential, but the characters were so unlikable, that I was never invested in the story or the outcome. Meredith is a young trophy wife, who suddenly disappears, but she’s so immature and annoying, that it’s difficult to care that she’s missing. Andrew, her wealthy, much-older husband, is narcissistic, controlling and cold. No woman with a shred of intelligence or insight would ever marry him. Then, there is Greer, Meredith’s older sister, who spends her time searching and tracking down false leads. Yet, despite her diligently-depicted efforts, their sibling connection never becomes dimensional and real. Lots of dialogue and memory flashbacks, but nothing heartfelt and emotional to draw the reader into the tale. Additional characters appear in the book to move the story along, but the overall tone was flat, formulaic and predictable. The pace escalated near the end, but the conclusion wasn’t particularly satisfying. Kent created a reasonably good story that could have sparkled with more depth, character development and sharper editing. The book was populated with the wrong people, whose prevailing facial expressions were often repetitive smirks. Kent was in dire need of a thesaurus.

Great quick-read thriller

Quick, easy read. Could have easily finished it in one sitting if I had the time. The author didn't spend too much time warming up and did well with plot twists and keeping you guessing. I wasn't crazy about the drawn-out sappy ending, though.
