The Spiderwick Chronicles: Books 1-5

I enjoyed the storyline and the whimsical way that it tied all the characters together. Not a Harry potter adventure, but one that holds your interest. Quick, easy read that should be enjoyed by all who read it.

Characters remain constant throughout all five books, and the storyline is easy to follow.

We adore books on tape, and have listened to many as a family. My kids are currently 14, 12, and 10. We listened to the audio version of Books 1-5 in the car on a long trip. The first book we got through okay -- the writing and plot line were excellent, but the personalities and lack of character in the children depicted in the books really irritated us all. The children show no respect for their mother, each other, or the creatures they encounter. Lying is one of the boys' "job" -- they tell each other to shut up constantly. The oldest girl rolls her eyes frequently and they make very poor decisions, and resort to violence with each other instead of talking it out.. We listened through 1 and 2, then skipped to book four, where the danger seemed a little more dire, hoping that it would have made the trio buckle down a bit and grow in maturity and character, but no -- they were the same brats from the first book. We took a vote, and it was unanimous to listen to simply look out the windows on the long drive than listen to the last two stories. It is a shame, because the concept was interesting and the writing fairly good.

The audio book is great, I may never read again. Mark reads it very well and different voices for all the people in the book. Only draw back is that some of the disc skip a word or two. But worth the money. Will give to my grandchildren to listen to since they are little and do not read well.

It was a very enjoyable and well red story, fatally ruined by the defective disk 5 that starts on chapter 2. I returned it for an exchange, thinking that it was a fluke. Sadly it was not, since this second set of disk had that same defect. I plan to return it for a refund and hope to not have any trouble.

When I purchased this I didn't realize that they were 5 short books in on series. I just wanted an idea of what the movie may be before I took my kids to see it.

That being said it's very short. The story was good, but the narration was goofy, almost comical at times. I went from Harry Potter all 7 with Jim Dale to this. I was less than Impressed. Mark Hamill
should stick to being a Starwars geek hero, and just leave it there.

DO NOT expect this to be like Harry Potter it is not even close. This is simpler and less climatic. Great for kids who don't like to read though.

I got this audio cd as a prelude to watching the movie that is supposed to come out. If the movie is anything close to what this material is, then it would be a sure hit.

This is great story. This audio version is fantastic. The characters are devolved very well. Adults will enjoy listening to this with their kids on long trips.

This is the full story of the Spiderwick movie. It takes place over the five books and they did a pretty good job of condensing them down for the movie. But if you want all the details that were left out try this. It's fun to listen to while driving and my son got a lot out of it. He commented on the stuff missing from the movie.

Special kudos have to go out to Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill for his reading of the story. He did a great job and I'd like to see him do more book reading. He's a natural at it.

Both you and your kids will enjoy this even more than the movie, I think.

i really liked these books for I have the whole set. I was a fun listen and one I am doing again.
