Best book of the series

The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking is the sixth book in the Family Skeleton Mystery series by author Leigh Perry. This is one of the series that I have to read as soon as there is a new release (and then wait a year for another release after that), but I truly enjoy these books and it's always worth the wait for another new book. The premise behind this series is so unique and so well done that it pulls you in immediately because you're curious how the author incorporates an ambulatory skeleton into a murder mystery. Author Leigh Perry does a superb job at this though. Sid feels like just a regular person and you quickly forget that he is a skeleton until something happens to remind you of that fact.

The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking takes place back in Pennycross where Georgia has gotten a job teaching as an adjunct professor at Bostock College, the other university located in Pennycross. Georgia's daughter's dog Byron gets out of the house one day and is found clutching a bone, which both Georgia and her daughter assume is one of Sid's bones. They quickly head back to the house to return the bone and apologize to Sid only to discover that Sid's bones are intact and Byron has actually discovered another skeleton. This begins a mystery that surrounds Bostock College and a museum located on campus grounds. The mystery was really well done and I had no idea who the perpetrator was until the reveal happens in the book. I also really enjoyed the ending of this book. I may have teared up a couple of times. I really loved this book and hope that this series continues for a long, long time. I definitely plan to read future books in this series (likely as soon as they are released) and highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys well written cozy mysteries with great characters and strong mysteries.

Don't Gnaw My Bones!

As always, Sid and Georgia stole my heart again in this book.
When Byron (the family dog) brings a human bone back to Madison after he has wandered off after escaping the house, the duo are back to trying to solve a murder. Georgia was telling herself she didn't want to become involved, but when the evidence seems to point to her friend and colleague Charles, she and Sid start investigating to keep him out of prison.
Georgia's romance with Brownie, her carnie/professor friend, is also being renewed, even though she is still very worried about him finding out about Sid. Just in case you didn't know, Sid is her skeletal friend from waaayy back, and he's really hard to explain.
If you like mysteries and a bit of paranormal, give this series a try. I think you'll really enjoy it!

The 6th book in the series is a delight

One of the few mystery authors who manages to keep me from solving the mystery before she is ready too. The characters are all well rounded, fun people to spend time with. Sid keeps the plot moving along, bringing back old favorites like the Fenton Carnival and the always impeccable Charles who gets an incredible plot line of his own. The story is set off when Byron come back to the house with a bone, that does not belong to our ambulatory friend.

Opened the book as soon as it arrived, and did not stop until I got to the end. Perry is one of the few authors who I have to read to the end as the mystery is solved. I recommend reading all six books, Again and again

Fun, But Still Murdery, Cozy Mystery

While it isn't my go-to genre, I do love to read a good cozy mystery now and then. This one had so many fun surprises that it was an absolute delight to read. I love the idea of Sid—a walking, talking skeleton! Not only that, but he is also surprisingly modern, loving the internet, making spreadsheets, and of course, helping to figure out murders. He can also disassemble on any night except Halloween, so a part of him can be conveniently tucked in a purse or taken in the car. Oh, my gosh! What fun! As you might imagine, there is a fair amount of humor in this book, most of it rather dry. I happen to like that particular type of humor, so I found this book highly amusing. It gets off to a great start when the family's dog comes home with a femur, and the family assumes the dog has somehow taken one of Sid's femurs. Alas, that is not the case. The family dog has stumbled upon a dead skeleton on a run about town when he escaped from home. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the mystery as it unfolded, but I think I enjoyed the interaction of Sid—well, anything to do with Sid, really—and the rest of the family to be the most fun. I had not read this author before, so this is the first of the series that I’ve. I don't feel like I was lost at all, so this can easily be read as a standalone if this is your introduction to the author as well. I did enjoy this one so much, however, that I will most likely be checking out other books in this series. Sid is such a great idea, and the author used him well! All in all, this is a very enjoyable wintertime mystery.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

THE SKELETON STUFFS A STOCKING, Leigh Perry, 2019

Dr. Georgia Thackery and her daughter, Madison, are back in Pennycross living with her parents after Georgia finds an adjunct position at Bostock College. With the family all together and Christmas nearing, it promises to be a cheerful season. But after escaping from the house and going on an adventure all his own, the Thackery's dog Byron returns carrying a femur, which later proves to be from a body found in a nearby overgrown lot. The police call it a murder, and although Georgia is reluctant to get involved in yet another murder, her friend and fellow colleague is implicated. Sid, the family's skeleton, who walks, talks, thinks, and loves murder mysteries is eager to get started, and so the crime-solving duo is off on another case. Being on home ground, old friends re-appear, and Georgia becomes reacquainted with an old friend, Brownie, who works at his family's carnival, and is also a professor.

Another grand book in this series. I can't really explain why I love this series so much, I can only recommend that you give them a try. But start with the first so you understand the complete backstory of the family and especially Sid. I would compare them with the Cat in the Stacks mysteries by Miranda James--they have the same sort of "feel" and are heavy on family and relationships. The skeleton series just adds a bit of the magical or perhaps unexplainable to the mix.
