Description

Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924) grew up in England, but she began writing what was to become The Secret Garden in 1909, when she was creating a garden for a new home in Long Island, New York. Frances was a born storyteller. Even as a young child, her greatest pleasure was making up stories and acting them out, using her dolls as characters. She wrote over forty books in her lifetime. Tasha Tudor's detailed, delicate artwork has been cherished by millions of readers. She illustrated nearly one hundred books, and received multiple awards and honors, including two Caldecott Honors.

Beautifully executed edition of the classic

Just received the book. And must say it it s a very well published volume. Had checked out a copy from our local library and was so impressed with the edition of the book that I wanted a copy to add to my library. Took several visits here to Amazon to locate what I thought was the same edition, and found this one. It IS the same well-done version!

My interest in what is supposedly a child's book, lies in work I did many years ago at university. Having watched a movie version of Garden, I was struck by amazing parallels in this work and Bronte's Wuthering Heights Then discovered the author of this work, was born within a year of Bronte's death, within 50 miles!! Hence the source of the similarities in settings and psychology of the two works. I then discovered there is a large volume of analytical literary analysis concerning this subject. And wanted my own copy of this story to study. This is a hefty, solidly, beautifully bound version on high quality paper that should last for many years..
