Description

"...plenty of action, emotion, and adventure ...a real page-turner. Highly recommended." -- Church Libraries, Spring 2001 If he wants her, let him come and prove it.... Fleeing her idyllic home in Sonoma, California, Carina Maria DiGratia journeys to the mining town of Crystal, Colorado. Clinging to hopes of a new life, she finds reality has a harsh welcome for her. Overrun with men seeking their fortune and women bound by circumstance, the town hosts both dreams and nightmares, with little surety for tomorrow. But at least here Carina is far from the betrayal that still pierces her heart. Early on, two men vie for her trust, but neither is what he seems. Will Carina discern the truth and confront the turmoil hidden in her own heart in time to prevent tragedy? Kristen Heitzmann was raised on five acres of ponderosa pines at the base of the Rocky Mountains where she still lives with her husband and four children. A musician, Kristen delights in sharing the traditions of American heritage, both through one-on-one interaction and through her bestselling series THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN LEGACY and her latest series DIAMOND OF THE ROCKIES. Her newest books, including Twilight, feature the landscape of America today. Read more

An engrossing, relatable, & unpredictable romance. Yay!

Christian Historical Fiction is my absolute favorite genre. I've read a couple of other Kristen Heitzmann books in the past and enjoyed them. When I stumbled upon this series in the Kindle store for a fairly cheap price I figured, why not?! I'm so happy that I found them.

Overall, this book was amazing. I felt drawn into the story, as if I was there in Crystal, CO with Carina. I love books that so completely draw me into their world. It offers an escape from everyday life that, let's be honest, everybody needs at times.
All of the characters were well written and developed. I have to admit I see a lot of myself in Carina: Hand-talking Italian, food lover, independent, stubborn, determined. I think we'd get along really well. Ha!

There were a few slow points in the book, but for the most part I was completely engrossed. This isn't your typical, predictable romance book. I love that. I could hardly put it down.

As for the reviews complaining that it's open-ended...
I actually enjoy the fact that the entire series centers around the same couple. I hate when series are more focused on a location and each book is about a different couple at that location. When I get invested in a character or couple in a book or series, I always want to know what happens next. I want to live in their lives longer. In my opinion this open-ended book gives me that opportunity to stay with the characters I love.

read it if you want something different unlike many of the mainline

It certainly had a lot of unpredictables. Maybe the picture on front of book left something to be desired and it is unlike me to look at a picture on cover to see what I feel about book...maybe the dress was a bit fancy for time-span setting? Story line quite different and if you are looking for a different read try it. It would be fun to know more about the author's ideas for this unusual book. The book had me wanting to konk some of the 'in crowd' in the book so you might say I identified with the hero/heroine. Admirable traits of deep friendship evidenced as book unfolded and helps restore your confidence in other's; recognzing the need to accept one another's differences rather than be predujiced.
