A book with many twists and turns

A very quick read and many twists and turns. You will drop everything you are doing to get to the end. I highly recommend!

What in the world is this crap?

I was aware of the bad reviews when I got this book but I still gave it a try. Suffice it to say 20 pages in and I was ready to chuck it in the trash. The only thing holding me back was the fact that it was library property. The writing resembles that of a middle-schooler, and the plot is ridiculous and laughable. In fact, the book itself is unnecessary since the driving conflict could have easily been resolved had Lauren confronted her husband. Each chapter is 2 pages long and the font is HUGE. Character dialogue is cliched and unrealistic. I don't know how anyone can read this and honestly be satisfied. This is without a doubt the worst book I've read this summer. After a whole week of indulging in Tess Gerritsen novels, The Quickie stood out as a clear loser. Do not waste your time with this tripe. I expected better from Patterson.

Please tell me you're joking!!!

After approximately 37 (very short) chapters, I was talking to my sister and proclaiming my anger at this book. I expect a certain level of intelligence from a 'James Patterson' novel, and the premise of an accomplished detective acting/reacting in such a manner was beyond ludicrous. I was embarrassed for the heroine AND Patterson. Flawed?!? I don't THINK so. Are there really people out there this .... what? Ignorant? Self-involved? Pathetic?
I was driven to Amazon.com, and the reviews of a number of apparently intelligent people. Guess what? Not by myself, was I?
After I finish my first-ever review, I'm returning the book to the Roanoke library. Let them deal with it. The ONLY time that I can remember not finishing a book. (Anyone ever read WAR AND PEACE? Now THAT was tough, but worthwhile) This 'book' is wasteful.

Wow... just Wow! And not in a good way.

I'm baffled by the glowing reviews for this book. I picked this up on a whim as I've never read anything else by Patterson and after reading this I doubt I ever will.

Utter garbage. Possibly the most preposterous and unrealistic thing I've ever read. Yes, it does have plot twist after plot twist, but every one of them is less believable than the last. If ANY police officers in real life were as mind-numbingly dim as the ones portayed in this book, every crime in America would go unsolved. And the ending... well why actually deal with the potential consequences of every ridiculous action preceeding it when you can just say "it all went away". Just horrendously lazy writing.

A woman this dumb would never be made a detective

A book that wanders through the mind of a woman who apparently has two personalities: Hard-nosed NYC detective, and a wimpering idiot who could not even change her shoes let alone solve crimes in the City of New York. I hear Patterson is supposed to be a great writer, this book reads like it was written by a first-semester writing college amateur desperate to please.

Awful

This was my second attempt to read a Patterson novel and my last. Just terrible, awful writing. The main character is amazing in every possible way, except that she's also too stupid to live. I hated her and every character in the book. Everything that happened was absurd and implausible. A "detective" so great at her job and so detail oriented that lawyers can just read her police reports to juries to get convictions, yet no clue at all as to what is happening in her own life or who she is married to. She was completely and utterly surprised by every turn of events. I'd just take a guess that a NYC policewoman has seen more than her fair share of the horrors this world can offer, I'm pretty sure my 8 year old daughter has more sense and is more perceptive than this gal. Dreadful.

One of the worst books I have read in a long time.

I can`t remember the last time I read a book and had to immediately post a review to save someone else the experience of reading the same book. I know that James Patterson has a large following, but this has to be one of the worst books he has written. The only saving grace is, that like most Patterson books they are easy to read. I think part of this is because many of the chapters are only two pages long, really. The story line of Quickie is beyond belief even for fiction and has an ending that seems like the writer just got tired of making things up and had to create a fantasy ending for the readers. Even the editing suffers with misplaced capitalizing and references in error(Reagan International Airport?) Whatever time you spend reading this book will be time lost that you will never see again and could have spent more wisely. Kind of like after you just watched a bad tv program and wondered why you didn`t change the channel.

It was a quickie for me. 78 pages and in the fireplace.

The 78th page of the paperback was the end of Chapter 27. It's beyond me why I read that much. I thought I'd go to Amazon and see what others had opined. I went to the one star reviews. They confirmed what I was thinking; throwing this book in the fireplace was the right choice. Any one star review would parrot what I thought of this piece of dreck.

Starts great - bogs down

The book starts great with real grabbers that include infidelity, betrayal, deception and murder. Who can resist that combo? The main charactor makes some really stupid descisions, but then there would not have been much of a story otherwise, so that's ok.

The problem for me was that the twist and turns became a little forced and the ending, when the bad person paid, was a bit silly. Also a main player underwent quite a change in the end - showing a charactor flaw that should have been recognized by those that knew the person well.

There was also a matter of critical evidence being moved around, that should have sent off a warning to someone. I was really captivated by the first third of the book, and felt let down by the rest.

Dont bother reading

This book was terrible. The characters are so incredibly flat and you cant make a connection with the "protagonist" I wouldnt call Lauren a protagonist at all she was really more like an antagonist. The plot was contrived and unrealistic. This book was a very quick read, the only thing good about this book was that it did keep me in suspense. When is Patterson going to write a book all by himself instead of having co-authors? What was the last book he wrote himself? Try again Patterson give us something with 3D characters, and a non contrived plot.
