Don't trust the skeptics! Trust your own RESULTS!
Having waded through all 69 reviews, it's clear that people are either strongly in support of Dr. Young's approach to health and wellness (based on personal experience), or strongly against his ideas/theories. Really ... check it out ... you'll see either five stars or one star.
Interesting though ... if you read carefully, you'll notice that most of the critics and skeptics haven't even tried the program. Instead, they're focused on attacking Dr. Young, his lack of credentials, his lack of published papers, his "mumbo-jumbo" science, etc., etc.
But honestly, who cares? I don't care if he got his degree out of a CrackerJack box. Like most people, I want results that I can see and feel. And that's exactly what I'm experiencing as a result of two things that are the cornerstone to his program: eating more greens and super-hydrating.
No need to follow all the fancy diets, either. It can be as simple or as difficult as you want to make it. Bottom line to his program entails 3 things:
1. Super-hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water (4-5 liters a day)
2. Alkalize the body by eating foods high in alkalinity (and this is where people get stuck ... you don't have to eat like them and fix all those fancy meals ... simply increase the % of veggies at each meal).
3. Supergreens - if you can't get enough veggies, and most of us can't, then use the supplements or powder. I mean you really can't beat them - 49 different organic grasses, vegetables and sprouts; as well as 125 different vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
What does all this sound like? That's right ... grandma's recipe for "good health and longevity".
Again, skip the skeptics and try it for yourself. No doubt your body will thank you for it!

Buy the book but not the products
Dr. Young maintains that there is only one disease and only one cure. The desease: too much acidity in the blood; the cure: alkalize. I have read all his books and have followed his advice for more than a year, and its transformed my life in many ways. I had some serious health challenges and spent years researching and consulting and have found nothing more powerful. I certainly recommend his books...BUT I do not recommend buying his products. Although his products are first class, Dr. Young insists on selling them in the most nauseating way possible...through Multi-Level Marketing. Shop around...there are equally good products on the market that are at least half the price and much easier to buy. 5 Stars for the books; 0 Stars for Dr. Young's sales practice (hence the 4 Stars).

The Answer to Many Prayers and Years of My Own Research!
At last my searching, praying and studying have brought me to the definitive program for reclaiming my health! And for all you naysayers out there-if you really read & studied the book and did your own research, you'd be singing a different tune as well!Dr. Young does not claim the glory for this new biology, in fact, he credits the great European scientist Antoine Bechamp (1816-1908) along w/others for the original research and theory! One also needs to take into account that a book of this revolutionary magnitude is meant for the masses and not so much the scientic community. Dr. Young has written other books for that purpose. One also should consider that the publisher also dictates certain restrictions & guidelines i.e., length, content, etc. that the author is bound by often making it difficult to encompass everything he intended. Citing studies, research & evidence in detail in this book for the masses would not serve his purpose anyway (to reach as many people as possible who are sick and tired of being sick and tired!) You want research? You want scientic evidence & studies? Read Dr. Young's first book: "Sick and Tired"! As for the supplements, I have read the book several times & remember no mention of any specific brand names-so much for the 'greed' theory. For the rest of the grumblers and skeptics out there, I can only say, "NEXT"! As for me, I'm a 'try it and see for myself' person. Yes, I appreciate reviewing what others have to say to get a 'feel' for whether or not I want to invest my time & money in a book/program, but it rang true to my own inner light when a friend shared it with me and that's something I can trust! As for the program, I can only say WOW! The weight is melting off, the blood sugar is normal again, the blood pressure is way down and that's just for starters. Yes, it's difficult at first (I wonder how 'difficult' chemotherapy, radiation and daily insulin injections can be?), but I know I'm worth it & I want my health back more than I want a juicy steack or a glass of wine! This is not a diet, it's a life-changing experience. I predict this way of life will scare the heck out of the drug companies, insurance companies, MD's/surgeons, diet/exercise industry not to mention the beef & dairy conglomerates & frankly, I can't wait! My eternal gratitude to you Dr. Young for caring and to your wonderful wife Shelley for the fabulous recipes and dedication to helping families all over the world wean their children from dietary poisons to healthier choices.

Pseudoscience And Quackery
It is amusing to read all the pro-Young apologists' retorts to criticism of this awful book. Instead of addressing the substantive points that critics such as Glenn E. Rodey raise, we read *ad hominem* attacks--the calling card of the overly emotional and the ideologue--and attempts to avoid the subject by referring to such red herrings as the parochial AMA, medical doctors' general lack of sound nutritional knowledge, and the like.
For that reason, let us recap the facts, so that they stand out unmistakeably.
FACT: With respect to his "credentials", which he is very reluctant to disclose, Young has far less credibility than any licensed medical practitioner.
Young received all of his post-graduate degrees from an unaccredited correspondence school. That is not how a reputable scientist and researcher educates himself. Playing at home with one's chemistry set, and then offering one's results as conclusively proven, without independent verification, is not sound science, either.
FACT: Young claims to be a world-renowned expert in various scientific fields, when he has never published an article in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
FACT: Young has a documented history of involvement in multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes.
FACT: Young's book is filled primarily with anecdotes from individuals who praise the miraculous effects of his diet. The "unsolicited testimonials from unknown parties as a substitute for evidence" ploy is a very old and, to the intelligent reader, unconvincing one.
FACT: Young's documentation in this book is extremely sloppy. He does not tie his references to footnotes that support his specific claims. As another reviewer mentions, Young also cites to extremely outdated and utterly discredited research in support of his acid/alkaline thesis.
FACT: In 1996, under a plea bargain, Young pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempted practice of medicine without a license. The plea bargain agreement provided that the charge would be dismissed if Young stayed out of trouble for eighteen months. [Source: "Herbalist in Alpine Pleads Guilty to Reduced Charge". *Deseret News* (Salt Lake City), February 5, 1996].
That said, there *may* be some merit in the dietary principles that Young advocates. From my personal experience, I tend to doubt it (There is no credible evidence of which I am aware that the body does not by itself do an excellent job of neutralizing any nutrients before they enter the bloodstream). My point here is that this is not the book that succesfully demonstrates these potential, but unlikely, merits. Therefore, use this book as a basis for experimenting upon yourself, if you like, but beware of the risks, and beware especially of this book's, and this author's, superabundant flaws.
Note: Please, before you accuse me of being yet another shill for the AMA, know that I actively practice dietary supplementation, that I have been treated by practitioners of complementary medicine, and that I have an interest in, and a great respect for, *genuinely* scientific alternative approaches to health, nutrition, and medicine.

My overall experience with this diet was good but definitely not a miracle.
I decided to try this book after Anthony Robbins recommended it on his "Get the Edge" program. He raved about the diet saying that he felt amazing while only getting 6-hours of sleep. He said he would work long hours and come home feeling refreshed.
He really sold me on it.
I needed energy like that to get my business started so I decided to give it a try.
The initial cleanse was very difficult for two reasons. The first problem was that it made me feel really sick. The second problem was that the cleanse wasn't very effective. The book says you're supposed to have bowel movements 3-6 times a day. However, by the 3rd day I was lucky to have any at all.
I do commend Mr. Young for having such a thorough book but in the end some of the stuff just isn't practical. I found a nice natural laxative, like he recommended, for the cleanse but it made me feel even weaker than before. I couldn't do this cleanse and take the natural laxative, it was just too taxing on my system.
I went on the diet for about 3-months without feeling any better. Probably because my cleanse was poorly done.
I knew I had to do the cleanse again so this time I searched on the Internet for a pre-packaged cleanse program.
I ended up finding a system called "Ultimate Fasting Cleanse" which worked very well. I had better elimination and I didn't feel sick at all. After I was done my hunger was gone so I guess it worked to clear out my "Candida".
After that I started back on the diet and I'm doing considerably better. However, I didn't experience any of those amazing effects that Robbins was raving about on his CD.
The diet is definitely worth doing. The benefits go beyond just losing weight. I don't feel hunger pains like I did in the past, I have a better sense of well being and my allergy problem is better (not perfect but better).
Despite all of the progress I have made the diet was still very disappointing because of my high expectations. That's not Robert Young's fault because he doesn't really hype up the diet.
However, the "Alkaline Diet community" as a whole makes this diet out to be some kind of "miracle". Maybe it is if you are sick but I was relatively healthy and I wanted to feel amazing.
I didn't get that from this diet.
If you are going to do a vegan, raw foods or alkaline diet this is probably the best diet for you. It's probably also good for people who are desperate to lose weight. However, I think the diet is too restrictive and the cleanse is too harsh for casual dieters looking to lose a few pounds.
It's also not a miracle for regular people.

A Self Help Book You Can Use
Dr. Young has put the many pieces of the self-help, health care puzzle together for everyone to understand and use immediately. His facts are simple, when your blood is acid that fosters disease, when your blood is slightly alkaline, health is restored. Dr. Young book basically tells us to eat 70-80% vegetables with 70-80% of those raw. He recommends you clean your system with 4 quarts/liters of pure water per day. Once you are healthy, an ounce of protein at a time would be ok. There is much more to understand and this simple description does not replace reading the wealth of information in his excellent book. I have been a chiropractor for 30 years. I have a PhD in nutrition. Much of this is not new, just put together well. I find this information the most helpful in 40 years of studying (and teaching college level students for 17 years). I only state my background to rebut the detractors who have written reviews against this book. After seeing thousands of patients, I understand first hand what health care poviders know, people will not change their ways unless they think they are dying and then it is hard to get them to take better care of this miracle of a body. I follow Dr. Young's book with excellent results. Family and friends are having excellent results and I am buying more copies to share with yet more family members and friends who have health problems that persists. You only have to look at the current state of health of the American public. Disease is rampat no matter what name you give it. We all know those who have passed-on with dis-ease is many organ systems, why the dis-ease? Restoring alkalinity to the system just makes sense. The bottom line is if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired you could try Dr. Young's plan to see if can restore your health. Do not take my words or the words of anyone else, your health and life may be in the balance. As Dr. Young describes, your urine should be slightly acid or neutral. Buy litmus paper at a drug store and check yourself for acidity. How acid are you? For about the cost of a fast food meal, Dr. Young's book may be the best investment you make in your quality and quantity of life. Three other very self-helpful books I use in conjunction with Dr. Young's book are, Eat Right 4 Your Type by Peter D'Adamo, naturopathic physician, The Pulse Test by Arthur Coca, M.D., and Bloodtypes Bodytypes and You by Joseph Christiano. Only you may be able to discover what helps you if you have a health problem that persists. Hopefully the information in one or more of these books will help you:)

Great book, and very helpful in showing you the way to successfully take control of your health through your diet. A+++++
My wife and I were overweight, and had major issues with acid reflux. We both took Prilosic or Prevacid almost daily. After the first week with an 80% high PH food diet our acid reflux went away. Over the course of the next few months we both lost almost 20 lbs each.
Now a year later, and after a recent health physical my blood pressure has improved so much that I've been able to discontinue my high blood pressure medicine. It all has been great, and after reading the book you'll totally understand why our normal diet here in the United States is so terrible for our body. I do believe that most of our minor and major diseases can be attributed to our poor diets of fast food, burgers, fries, pizza, donuts, sodas, etc... Don't forget to drink lots of water as well. I've been one year without Diet Coke.....remember, DO NOT DRINK SODA (or POP for you Northerner folks!)

The Ph Miracle
The Ph Miracle explains in detail the benefits of changing our diet from an acid based diet, consumed by most of us! ( which the author claims is responsible for all illness)to a predominantly alkaline diet which the author claims cures and prevents or at least minimizes symptoms of illness. It is very convincing. The author explains the reasoning behind his claims and has done extensive research on this subject.I have just been diagnosed with Lupus and the treatment options are limited. I have been following the program set out by the author for 6 weeks now am feeling the benefits. I have more energy, seldom need pain relief medication, sleep better and am getting my life back. It is a tough program but Lupus is a tough disease and I am hopeful that this diet will continue to restore my health and vitality.
