What do you call a book like that? Oh yeah: a page turner. And it’s a rare and wonderful thing.” — New York Times Book Review “An electrifying thriller—and a subtle, savvy skewering of the endless expectations of modern motherhood.” — People , Book of the Week “Whip-smart.... Very much in the mold of recent best-sellers like The Girl on the Train and The Woman in the Window, but it’s also a sharply drawn take on the cult of modern parenting and the particular pressure women face—from within and without—to pull it all off, flawlessly.” — Entertainment Weekly “A gripping page turner that explores the pressures of modern motherhood, as well as a mother’s absolute worst nightmare.xa0I could not be prouder to be bringing this thriller to the big screen.” — Kerry Washington “A desperate, thrilling mystery that you’ll think you have all figured out – until you realize you don’t.” — Marie Claire “A riveting psychological thriller that takes a sharp, insightful look at motherhood, The Perfect Mother explores the pressures, the hopes, the fears, and the secrets between a group of friends who realize how little they know one another when a crisis strikes. Mesmerizing.” — Kirkus Reviews (starred) “A novel about internalized sexism, specifically as it relates to motherhood.... Each protagonist has a demon of her own to fight, and with it a new angled on the fundamental question of how a woman can reject the world’s beliefs about who she should be.” — Los Angeles Review of Books “For a charmed group of new moms, a girls’ night out ends in one mother’s worst nightmare. In twist after masterful twist, secrets and lies begin to unravel; The Perfect Mother is a tense and riveting page turner with an ending you won’t see coming.” — Liv Constantine, author of The Last Mrs. Parrish “Keeps readers guessing... bound to press familiar hot buttons and unnerve many readers.” — Minneapolis Star Tribune “I raced through The Perfect Mother , desperate to find out what would happen. Perfect for Book Clubs

I've read The Perfect Mother twice and my heart was still pounding during the final pages the second time around. This book is smart, funny, and brings up so many topical issues for discussion. I've read many mysteries and still couldn't figure out this one until the end. The prose is fresh and easy to follow. A must read.

The only nice thing I can say about it was that it ...

Why TF is this book labeled as "the most anticipated book of the summer" and an "addictive psychological thriller"? It was a very, very disappointing read and I really wish I hadn't purchased it for my mom for Mothers Day. The "plot twist" might as well have been the mailman on page 2 with 1 line that was barley introduced (this is merely an example) as the abductor of the baby. And then when the reader does find out who abducted the baby, then that's it. The end. The abductor might as well have waved a white flag and said "aight I'm caught, I'll go down without any fight whatsoever, the book can end". The only nice thing I can say about it was that it was a "quick read", thank the sweet Lord.

WOW!

I loved this book! I know some people will be turned off by the Mommy talk throughout the book, but as a fairly new mom, I loved the mix of the mom talk with the suspense. I got the book over the weekend and finished it in two days. The only reason it took me two days to read it? I have a full-time job, a two-year-old, and my husband was away for work so I was the only one home taking care of my daughter. I will highly recommend this to all my friends who need good reads over the summer. I may even read it again myself! Good reading everyone!

Disappointing

A fellow mom recommended this book as a light beach read. Definitely light and reads quickly but the story is not well written and I just wanted to finish the book and be done with it. I cannot believe all the 5 star reviews... the book was very disappointing

Mommy Melodrama

Members of a mommy's group learns that no good deed goes unpunished. The May Mothers came together online. Meeting twice a month, they share the challenges and rewards of new motherhood. The members decide to take a stressed out single mother Winnie for a girls night out of drinking and partying. But the unexpected happens when her unfortunately named son, Midas, is kidnapped. The cops are morons who would have difficulty finding the local donut shop much less a missing child. the press coverage intensifies and the mothers are under scrutiny. Of course they all have secrets they would prefer not be revealed so they start their own haphazard investigation.

this book apparently is going to made into a major motion picture. Sorry, lifetime melodrama would be more fitting. It is packed with angst and agony and the stresses of motherhood. I found the members of the group fairly interchangeable. The nameless narration by the kidnapper is more silly than menacing and the big twist was not a big surprise. Still it is well written and well done if you have the interest and patience for all the drama. I did not find any of the characters especially engaging and really anyone who names their kid "Midas" should turn in their parenthood card. It moves quickly but is just not my bottle of pablum.

Meh

Quick read, but doesn’t live up to the hype. When writers jump from several points of view it usually means none of the characters are all that well-written. It’s lazy and if it’s not done well, your readers are confused. Also, some writers use this approach as a crutch to drive stories forward or create artificial cliffhangers and false suspense. It ends up making your reader feel insulted, and this book was no exception. Clearly a whole red herring storyline that was kinda predictable. An ending that cheated the reader of figuring it out themself, because there weren’t really any clues. You aren’t supposed to figure it out, you’re supposed to be surprised...but the vehicle for that isn’t really fair in this book. Characters were difficult to distinguish...characatures of motherhood. In lots of places the pacing dragged to the point where I wanted to skip whole sections of Francie’s unbearable inner/outer anxiety.

Very well written

Bought for a book club and is not my usual genre. I found it to be very well written and engaging but the way the story was put together bothered me. I like the way she varied her POV among characters and all of the characters were engaging and believable. I won't give away the surprise ending, it was a definite twist and I won't say more for fear of spoiling it for future readers. Let's just say that I was left feeling like the ending did not flow well with the rest of the story. There were clues all along, true, but I felt like the villain of the piece just appeared from nowhere and the ending was just tacked on in a hurry to meet a publisher's word count.

The Perfect Mother

I think twisty thrillers are very much having a moment in the book world. With the success of books like Big Little Lies, The Couple Next Door, The Wife Between Us, and other books, along come The Perfect Mother. A book that, even before it's released, already had the movie rights bought and will star Kerry Washington.

Overall, I thought that the book was pretty good. The writing was strong and Aimee Molloy had me turning pages to see what would happen next. There are lots of twists and usually I'm good with guessing the endings on thrillers, but this one I didn't. I would definitely read more from this author.

I would absolutely recommend this to any fans of the thriller genre. A great summer beach read.

You need to form your own opinion. This was mine.

I did not like this book at all. Very disappointing because it got a great write up.

A Mess of a Book.

This book simply didn't draw me in There were too many characters in too confusing of a setting with too many contrived events happening and too many shifts in time and location and narrator-voice and all of this felt like schtick instead of natural story-telling. I want a book that delivers on story, not one that delivers on gimmicks. I felt no sympathy after the first 130 pages for any of the characters and even though the concept was interesting, the delivery simply wasn't.
