Great book

This book was great! It kept you on your toes and made you want to keep reading. I kind of had an inkling about what was going on, but I was still shocked at the events that took place. Highly recommend!

Don’t buy it!!

I’m not sure if the reviewers read the same book did. I painstakingly got to page 140 and just couldn’t read anymore. It flips from character to character but you can easily predict what is happening. The details in the story are long and there is not much conversation. I ended up skipping to the back which I never do and reading the last chapter. Yep- exactly what I thought. Very disappointing read.

Not great fiction

I am sort of in shock at all the amazing reviews. This book is not great fiction. Agree that dialogue is stilted, seriously no clue at all why the main characters are even married at all. LESS THAN ZERO REDEEMING QUALITIES and fleshed out the family to have kids as story props. Speaking of characters, you are hard pressed to even find a character to care about. Early on you get the picture that one of the narrators is unreliable and so then it all comes a calling. How it all really went down. There are "Mouse" chapters that are narrated from the point of view of an abused child and her abusive "fake mom", sorry folks, in the realm of entertainment, I don't "do" child abuse. So super stressful and not something I want to delve into in my free time. The worlds underbelly is just so unbearable in real life not going to try to unwind to it on my free time as a story line gimmick cloaked in character development.
Headed back to some of the tried and true authors I love. Can I even mention them on this review? Don't know what protocol for leaving review is but feel like I should tell you all to run!! Way way way better fiction out there...Feel like this book is leaving me shell shocked about trusting star ratings and reviews.

Don't read this, you deserve better

I've read some bad books this year, but this takes the cake. Horrible characters you're supposed to empathize with, but are so flat, I could hardly stand reading their chapters. The "twist" was grossly predictable and then turns a corner that's so unrealistic and out of left field that it's just absurd, and then ANOTHER twist to wrap everything up nicely. The writing is awful, the author uses three different ways of saying the same thing in three sentences. I'm learning I can't trust any positive book reviews on Amazon. I chose this book because I liked the author's other book, but if you like a good mystery, good writing, and multi-dimensional characters, skip this book.

I did not see the ending coming at all! Over all a great psychological thriller!

Terrible!

So slow to get into. Not a fan of any of the characters, except for maybe the two boys...who don't have a lot of read time, unfortunately. I think she picked the wrong character to give the main focus. She was boring. I'm not a fan of this author. I've read two of her books and wasn't impressed with either. Can't recommend.

Easy to Guess the “Twist”

Around page 100, I guessed the major plot twist, and honestly I should have guessed it earlier. That takes a lot away from the book. But it was well written and the setting creates an eerie-ness to it. I almost didn’t finish the book, but then decided to go ahead and read it so I would know all the details. Of course, I was right with the major twist. I wish the author could have kept it more of a secret somehow - I would have loved this book!

If there is one book you buy this year... don't buy this one

SPOILER ALERTS! Until the time writers discover a way to craft a good thriller that does not involve domestic/and child abuse, we will have books like this. Transparently awful where the end is guessed at the beginning. It is just a matter of figuring out how the author gets there.

The Other Mrs. starts off strong with an inherited house that is neither a mansion nor an estate or an ultramodern masterpiece. It is run down at the heels, on an isolated island, that all the same has a police department and library for 1,000 people. in another refreshing twist, Sadie is pleasant looking but not drop-dead gorgeous and has a normal name that is not shortened to something else. The writer though must have been extremely confident that Netflix was desperate so she took some liberties with things like medical licensing, personality disorders and other things that require a great suspension of belief.

Spoiler: Worst of all is disturbing child and animal abuse, that could have been hinted at and not graphically described.

By the third chapter the secret is out.
