Loyal to game but still it's own thing!

I've been getting every book since the first of this series and, as always from these wonderful artist/authors, its wonderful! I always love that they are loyal to the game it's based on but still adds their own wonderful touches to the story in wonderful ways. Not to mention reading this as well as rereading the others I have, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for to name a few, have been a godsend during these trying times. I love this book and all the others before this one and very excited the next. Thank you for making these wonderful books!

Character Assassination - Unfaithful

Spoiler Alert if you haven’t played the game. Honestly, just go play the game instead of reading the manga hehe.
I used to love the Twilight Princess manga a lot. I really appreciated the extra attention and detail given to Shad, Ashei, Illia, and Ganon. Seeing Shad go to the Sky City felt great, he deserves it! The art was also just AWESOME! I loved the shading and textures especially. Each drawing was so enjoyable to look at. The action scenes made me feel like I was watching a movie/anime!
However, as I read from book 3, something started to feel off. I started to have a gross feeling, but I just ignored it at first. Book 9 made me realize what grossed me out and it just broke me. Zant was made a completely different character. At the beginning of book 5, the exact words I thought were: “This is out of character”. I initially brushed it off as the author being extra “creative”. In book 9, I was able to see the situation more clearly, and I knew what happened. It is a fantastic example of character assassination. They made fake Zant obsessed with Midna to a concerning degree; despite real Zant loathing her and trying to heartlessly kill her. I wasn’t comfortable with how this new character was written. It felt like the author wrote the new character to vent some sort of gross fantasy. It made me feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. The character wasn’t even drawn the same, many details were changed. Honestly, I think it’s kind of funny, as it further separates the two of them. The new character is extremely lack-luster, disturbing, and annoying imo.
A bunch of plot holes were made too. For example: In the game, Zant took control over both realms because he thought he deserved it and was for the betterment of his realm. In the manga, antiZant only wanted Midna and thus had zero reason to desire the light realm. It seemed like they overtook the realm, only because the plot needed it/Ganon wanting it. Another example: After the Zora Temple, Zant wanted Midna to give him the rest of the royal power, and he would let her off easy or kill her. When she denied him the power, he tried to kill her because A: he knew she’s a threat B: he doesn’t want the royal power to return if he can’t have it C: he hates her. -examples of hatred: he calls her “Impudent” and “Foolish” after insulting her family. He made her an Imp knowing it would further emotionally damage her. Then he tries to murder her after ramming her face into the ground.- If Midna is antiZant’s goal, then why would they try to kill her? Also, why would they let her run away from the fight at the beginning? Wouldn’t it make more sense if they kept her imprisoned until she decided to marry them? There are other examples I could mention, but I don’t want to take up your time. I know some things could be said/adjusted to fill some holes. Albeit, most, if not all rely on the character assassination. But still, why assassinate such an important character and create all these issues to begin with? It just felt like such a massive disappointment and a huge missed opportunity. There were so many things that could have been done to enhance the character. I feel like he deserves better. The way they were assassinated, It felt like a big disservice to the character. But that is just my opinion.

In earlier books, I wasn’t comfortable with how King Bokoblin was written either. It made me feel disturbed with how he talked to Ilia. I suppose this just sets the tone for how weird things get later on. Tbh, something felt off about Midna too; but I don’t know what. I think perhaps the author may have written her being a bit too harsh and uncaring. Perhaps some traits were flanderized too.
I found some of the material in the books triggering. It made it a very unpleasant read at times. I play Twilight Princess and other Zelda games to take my mind off this kind of stuff. I want a mental escape and a safe place to be. I think that’s one of the reasons I am so upset. It really hurts to have something I find much comfort in turned against me. Book 9 was just too much for me, so I gave up on the manga entirely. I wasn’t able to complete the book, so maybe there is some material that proves me wrong? Even if so, I believe it would still count as a bad case of character assassination and the plot holes are still there. The series left a really bad taste in my mouth. Definitely not a fan of it.
If you haven’t read the manga yet, and are looking at reviews ahead of time, I personally don’t recommend it. Mainly because the triggers just hit really hard, I’m still recovering from a recent traumatic event. If you’re in a similar situation, I recommend doing some more healing before you give it a read.

I think I will stick to the game. I still love the game and characters a ton, I consider myself a massive fan of the game! However, the manga just didn’t do it for me. I’m happy so many fans enjoy it though. It’s just not to my taste.

It really makes suspense to raise...

Getting every time closer to the climax, it really gives a deep feeling into the story, the characters, and onto the conclusion of the story. Among other works from Akira Himekawa, the Twilight Princess manga collection, has been very remarkable. It really gives a deep feeling through the story, and makes the game's story and events really fall far behind this "majestic" artwork.

Excellent work. Can't wait for the next volume's release.

Great manga!

If you’ve played Twilight Princess, it follows the storyline with some twists to get to know about some characters. There are some cringy moments but it’s most likely just me. The graphics are stunning and it gives a really enjoyable side to the reading. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the storyline and I can’t wait for the final tome to come out this September!
