Description

“A spooky romantic comedy treat that had me sighing at one page, laughing out loud at the next. The Ex Hex is the perfect book for fall.” — New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey “Sterling casts a spell on her readers with this romantic comedy. … As humorous and fantasy filled as the novel is, it also encourages readers to ponder the idea that the world is a very small place. Sterling puts a wonderful spin on two people who once had each other’s backs to two people who need each other to save a city from destruction. A cute and laughable holiday read to get you through the harsh winter weather.” — USA Today on The Ex Hex “Filled with delightful witchiness and humor, this playful romantic comedy from Sterling explores second chances and self-discovery. … Comedic chaos rules the day, with plenty of laughs overlaying just a touch of introspection as the exes realize how much they still mean to each other. The result is a fluffy Halloween treat.” — Publishers Weekly on The Ex Hex “Sterling's novel is ultimately crisp and sweet, like biting into the perfect caramel apple, and makes for an equally delicious autumn treat that will sweep readers up into a world of whimsical magic. A wickedly funny rom-com about the power of second chances, family, and love.” — Kirkus Reviews on The Ex Hex “Cozy and cute and Halloween appropriate, and Rhys is extremely attractive. The Ex Hex was, in short, a blast.” — Jezebel Erin Sterling also writes as Rachel Hawkins, the New York Times bestselling author of multiple books for young readers. Her work has been sold in more than a dozen countries. She studied gender and sexuality in Victorian literature at Auburn University and currently lives in Alabama.

  • New York Times
  • bestselling hit
  • The Ex Hex
  • features fan favorite Gwyn and the spine-tinglingly handsome Wells Penhallow as they battle a new band of witches and their own magical chemistry.
  • Gwyn Jones is perfectly happy with her life in Graves Glen. As Halloween approaches, there’s only one problem—Llewellyn “Wells” Penhallow.
  • Wells has come to Graves Glen to re-establish his family’s connection to the town they founded as well as to make a new life for himself after years of being the dutiful son in Wales. When he opens up a shop of his own, Penhallow’s, just across the street from Something Wicked, he quickly learns he’s gotten more than he bargained for in going up against Gwyn.
  • When their professional competition leads to a very personal—and very hot—kiss, both Wells and Gwyn are determined to stay away from each other, convinced the kiss was just a magical fluke. But when a mysterious new coven of witches come to town and Gwyn’s powers begin fading, she and Wells must work together to figure out just what these new witches want and how to restore Gwyn’s magic before it’s too late.

Does not disappoint

I rarely find that I like a sequel better than the original book in a series; however, this is one of those times! I do love The Ex Hex but This Kiss Curse is even better! Love Gwyn and Wells story! I cannot wait for what I hope will be Bowen’s story or at least more of this family!

LOVE THIS SERIES

Just buy this and the Ex Hex! These books are so fun and scratch a very specific itch I have for romance novels. I love the fact that there's a storyline that moves the book forward rather than just cutesy romance the entire time. Such a great series if you want a contemporary love story with a spooky, witchy twist!

Quirky Magical Romance

I absolutely ADORED this book! The Ex Hex was a favorite of mine in 2021 and I was so excited for this sequel to come out and it did not disappoint! The books don't have to be read in order, however it would be helpful to understand some of the references from the first book if you haven't read that one yet. The main characters were so lovable and relatable and the flirtatious energy was just undeniable between these two! If you love enemies to lovers, witty banter and steamy romance, then you will love this book!

If you liked the 1st book, you will like this one

I liked this sequel even more than I liked the first book. It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure series. Easy to read, has naughty parts, pretty predictable. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. My favorite side character in the first book is a main character in the second. Thus I immediately found it more interesting. If you liked the Ex Hex, I think you will enjoy this one as well.

Doesn’t disappoint

I loved the Ex Hex so much, I couldn’t imagine the Kiss Curse being a strong follow up, but it is! Great job bringing secondary characters to the forefront. Lots of twists and turns-highly recommend!

Good story bad copy

The story is good I enjoyed the pace and characters. However, the font on my paperback looks like the printer was running out of ink some letters are cut off, some words are really faint. So really suggest getting a kindle version or buy it in a book store where you can check the pages.

Mood: You want to ease your way into spooky season with no sassy, exuberant witches.

This was just an utter delight.

If you read The Ex Hex you absolutely want to grab this sequel to start your Halloween/Samhain season early and catch up with the crew in Graves Glen.

If you haven’t read The Ex Hex you’re going to miss a lot of context. There are things in that story that are important to this one and while they are explained here, you’re going to have a fuller experience if you have read it (it’s also a pleasure!). If you HAVE read The Ex Hex you’ll enjoy following up with Vivi and Rhys.

The Kiss Curse picks up a few months after The Ex Hex in a town with magic powered by the Jones witches. Vivi is holding down the academic front as a professor on the witchy side of campus (yes! Graves Glen has a secret witch department at the college) and Gwyn is running Something Wicked, a witchcraft shop that largely caters to the tourist crowd. Plastic pumpkins galore!

When Wells (Rhys’s brother) decides to leave Wales and settle in Graves Glen AND open up a witchcraft store across the street from Something Wicked, Gwyn sees red. Along with her crew of Baby Witches (3 college students she’s adopted/mentored) she tries to snuff out the competition, but Wells unfortunately looks incredibly ravishing and her mission turns from taking him out to riding his face in the bed of her pickup. Welp!

When her magic starts to go haywire, her life turns into a who-done-it. Gwyn has to figure out if her magic going bonkers is a result of the new coven in town or something else. Either way, she needs her magic back and Wells teams up with her and the Baby witches to help Gwyn get her magic back.

My one sticking point is that this got wrapped up pretty quickly. I’d love a glimpse in the future via an epilogue, but I’m pretty sure we’re getting a book 3 about brother Bowen and kicking the derriere of the super villain (because he needs karma to bite him in the tush—hard). Can I petition for this book 3 to take place at the Spring Solstice rather than waiting for Samhain season?

Sooo, essentially my biggest sticking point is that I want another book ASAP (and a promise of lots more Sir Purrcival time!).

This ARC was provided by Avon & Harper Voyager via Netgalley, thank you all!

Cute witchy read just in time for spooky season

- Enemies to lovers
- Small town romance
- Witchy-puns
- Talking Cats

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
▪️Very easy, light hearted read that is fast paced and great for a non-spooky, spooky season read.

▪️I loved the banter between Gwen and Wells, and overall how their opposite natures managed to still attract one another.

▪️ I want to visit the cute little witchy town of Graves Glenn. It just seems like the perfect, quirky place to visit in the fall.

▪️Just enough tension and spice! (as my friend would put it…more than PG-13. 😂)

▪️ Overall, a fun rom-com with witchy vibes! Recommend this one and it’s prequel, The Ex Hex!

Get in the spooky season mood

A super cute and fallish themed book to get anyone in the Halloween mood. I enjoyed the ex hex so I was excited for more of this eclectic town.

The ending seemed a bit rushed with the “big dramatic moment” and I was super upset that a certain reveal of his time at the college and the girl he crushed on was never talked about again… because hello swoony moment! I wanted to jump in the pages and say tell him who it was!!!!

It was an easy read (although I’m not a huge fan of 3rd person pov) and I’m def looking forward to the last brothers book and hope to see more of Gwyn’s baby witches. Fingers crossed that the twist revealed in this book about Gwynn’s magic is actually resolved in the last one.

Cute and funny

B O O K R E V I E W

Okay, I'll start by saying that I enjoyed the first book, The Ex Hex, in the series so I was very excited to read the sequel and see Gwyn get her book. She was a highlight of The Ex Hex as a character and I was looking forward to reading her story.

Gwyn and Wells's chemistry was fun and full of sparks! 😉

Definitely a fun enemies to lovers book. Which hello is one of my favorite types of romances. Add in a dash of witchcraft, family drama, and a talking cat that asks for treats and it makes it the perfect spooky season rom-com.

Things I loved:
▪️The plot (even more so than The Ex Hex).
▪️The “baby witches” Gwyn takes under her wing.
▪️The banter between Wells and Gwyn.
▪️The steam (not over the top but not closed door)
▪️Obviously enemies to lovers trope.
▪️The witchcraft element.

I love a light, easy, fun read and this was exactly that with magical elements. It was the perfect start to my Fall reading list.
