Great for vegans too!

I am vegan and have tried to go keto in the past and failed due to lack of information. Before purchasing I messaged the author and asked if there were vegan recipes other than "dessert or snack type" foods and she told me that 42% of the recipes were either vegan or had an option to be made vegan. I LOVE this book! Though it does not include a meal plan for vegans specifically, the amount of information included in the book allowed me to create my own vegan keto meal plan. It also has a lot of helpful advice on how to deal with issues that may arise as your body transitions from sugar burning to fat burning. This book is so easy to read that it makes it possible for anyone to be keto!

Not for Beginners

I bought this book because I really like Leanne Vogel's personality (from her You Tube videos) and I thought the book would be comprehensive. Also reviews were mostly 5 stars, and that swayed me. I'm actually sorry I bought the book. It's mostly confusing & overwhelming. (And I am coming to Keto from long term Low Carb, so there is a lot of overlap & familiarity.) In trying to help people "customize" keto, we get bogged down in so many variables that...after reading this whole book, I still don't know the Basics of keto like, so....how many grams of protein should I eat? Should I aim for a certain amount or stay under it? Same for fat. This is probably a good book for someone very familiar with keto and looking for ways to adjust it. Especially good for no-dairy recipes. I think Leanne has a very good following online & these people love her & so love her book. (She seems like a super nice young woman! I wanted to like her book!) This is just not a good book for beginners.

This book is great for those that want every detail of Keto as ...

For a beginner, this was incredibly overwhelming and a bit too detailed. For me, I just want the necessary information to get started and stay on track. This book is great for those that want every detail of Keto as well as the writer's personal journey. It seemed to have a lot of "fillers" in the writing.

Great info, ok recipes

So the first 1/3 or so of this book is chalk full of great information. It’s almost like a textbook for keto; it’s pretty great to have all the info gathered together in one spot, rather than scouring the interwebs for all of it. The recipes are ok- my main problems with them is that a lot of them seem pretty time consuming, which isn’t ideal for me as a parent of a toddler with another on the way. I prefer quick and easy recipes, but these recipes are probably great for people without small children. My other issue is that the author doesn’t use any dairy in her recipes, and would probably be pretty pricey to eat like this on a regular basis considering some of the alternative ingredients. The only way I got my husband on board with this diet is that he can pretty freely eat cheese and butter (and bacon lol, but that’s included in many of these recipes). Instead, the recipes in this book use primarily coconut/avacado/olive oil, non dairy milk, and no cheese to speak of. You can definitely achieve ketosis and lose weight while still eating dairy (so long as there isn’t added sugar) so I won’t be excluding it from our diet. I’ll likely use some of the recipes, possibly altered to include dairy. But the time consuming ones just aren’t for me unfortunately.

Also worth mentioning the author has set up a few different meal plans complete with weekly shopping lists, which is a great tool for single people (the plans are set up to feed one person). Just not so much for my family (you can double/triple etc the shopping list and meals if you want for families, but the time consuming recipes aren’t for me)

The Keto "Bible"

I just received this book in the mail 2 days ago (on the release date) and I already can tell that this book is going to be an indispensable tool for me. I have been experimenting with a lower carb, higher fat (ketogenic) approach to my diet for a few months now, but I've definitely been struggling with exactly what kind of keto will work best for me. The struggle is already over. I looked over Leanne's fat-fueled profiles and I was VERY easily able to figure out which plan will be best for me. I can't wait to start following her Daily Fat Burner plan on this coming Monday. I feel so much better knowing that I have a direction to go in now. I will be trying out several recipes from the book next week (I just made my Meal Plan for next week using ALL recipes from this book), and I am going to be reading this bad boy cover to cover! This book is so comprehensive, it's basically for Keto what Diane Sanfillipo's Practical Paleo is for Paleo. It's my Keto "Bible" and I will be consulting it daily! I highly recommend this book as a starting point if you are wanting to learn more about Keto, but it's a great idea for those of you that may already be familiar with Keto as well. Lots of recipes, lots of great info, plans tailored to your specific needs, and a way of approaching Keto that goes far beyond nutrition, which really leads to better overall health!

Get this one

I was really scared when I got this book. Basically, I was dropping my life into the hands of a stranger,
For a new way of eating. I was so fortunate to choose this one by Leanne Vogel. (I’ve already lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks)
She thought of everything I could possible need for successful dieting. This seems to be a healthier version of the diet--she uses milk and cheese substitutions. The first ½ of the book is informational. The 2nd ½ is a collection of outstanding recipes. There are many good charts that reinforce the concepts she explains in easy to understand language. She’s environmentally aware and suggests the best Earth-considerate options for ingredients. There are questions to help decide which of her included diet plans will work best for you. She knows it can be scary and addresses your fears.
The material and organization are really outstanding, and I think she really deserves an award for this book.
There are so many color pictures—First medium sized pictures of the food groups, then big pictures with each recipe and little pictures of all the recipes at the very end. The features I liked best were: On her meal plan, each meal suggestion had the recipe page right there- you didn’t have to go to an index. Nutrient content is summarized as a daily total on her weekly-plan-calendar section, and individually with each recipe so you can bump it up or down to your own liking. (Also shows fat ratios.) She gives you options--You can be fixated on numbers or use another more relaxed approach. If something comes up—she’s got you covered with a section on things that you might encounter. I own a lot of cookbooks and this one is outstanding! The recipes have been delicious! Candy like a Mounds bar?!, Toasted marshmallow coconut treats? Cauliflower rice and cauliflower mac & cheese? These were new for me, but are very tasty and healthy! Almond flour crust is my new favorite. Ingredients are not exotic and expensive like I’ve seen in other keto books. Simple hamburger, eggs, chicken, chops, salad, flax seed muffins (all nondairy). There are a few fancy recipes for special occasions.) She’s even got recipes to make your own nut milks, and comparative alcohol consideration charts. The only problem I have is that the food is so good, people that aren’t dieting want a plate after one taste and raving how good it is. (What a great problem to have). It started a new way of using my kitchen. I never thought I’d be one of “those” organized cooks that prep and store meals but she explains exactly how to do it and she works leftovers in the meal plan so a lot of days you are simply reheating. It turned out to be easier than I imagined as she is also in tune with minimizing cooking effort and cleanup. I really appreciate that! I almost bought another book. but another reviewer said: “Get this one instead” And I’m so happy I did. I will pass on that same message—Get this one!
Good luck.

The Most Comprehensive, Practical, And Enjoyable Keto Book I've Ever Seen

As the author of a couple of bestselling ketogenic diet-focused books ([[ASIN:1628600071 Keto Clarity]] and [[ASIN:1628600780 The Ketogenic Cookbook]]) that I wouldn't have anything positive to say about another low-carb, high-fat book. But you would be wrong! Leanne Vogel has put together one of the most comprehensive, practical, and enjoyable keto books I've ever seen. For fans of the Paleo diet, Leanne has done for keto what Diane Sanfilippo did for Paleo with her perennial bestseller [[ASIN:1628600004 Practical Paleo]]. Like Diane's book, this one is simply gorgeous in the layout and presentation of the information. Practically anything you'd ever want to know about nutritional ketosis is in this book and then some. I'm confident this will become a resource in your ketogenic library for many years to come. GET...THIS...BOOK!

Did anyone actually proofread this book?

It ticks me off that I paid $10 for this Kindle book with so many glaring errors. I'm trying to follow the Classic plan for Week 1, but it's a disaster. For example, the shopping guide calls for 3/4lb of chicken thighs, and the chicken salad recipe calls for 1 1/2lbs. The shopping guide calls for 1 1/4lbs of shoulder chops, but the shoulder chops recipe recipe calls for 2 1/2lbs. The recipe makes 12 muffins, but the plan only uses 6 and says nothing about what to do with the other half. Is the serving size really 2 muffins or do I just have twice as many as I need?

There's a lot of good info about the ketogenic diet, but the actual meal plan is a joke.

By far the BEST Keto diet book available.

Leanne really outdid herself and everyone else with this book. I pre-ordered the book looking for recipes and was astounded with the level of content included! I have been on a keto diet since mid-Dec 2016, keto-adapted since late January and I feel great. I'm down nearly 20 pounds and rarely hungry. I found Leanne through her podcast, then connected with her website, too. This book is jam-packed with everything you would ever want to know about keto, and then some. I love Leanne's approach to keto; it's all about personalization. The approach is very person-centered, not dogmatic at all. Her advice is keto for the long haul with keto-three ways to provide some guidance. I learned through this book something new, a little scary but I am now beginning to experiment a bit with carb-ups. I check my blood for ketos about once a week, just to double check where I am at, but as Leanne explains over time you will get to know your body and will know by how you feel if you are still in ketosis or not. Finally, kudos to the designers responsible for the very helpful graphics! If you are interested in keto, buy THIS book; nothing compares.
