Description

“[The] biggest story line in terms of cast and scope during the duo's classic four-year run on the series and one designed to celebrate the character's 75th anniversary.”—USA TODAY “Just when you thought it couldn't get any bigger or better, here comes ENDGAME.”—TECH TIMES xa0“Endgame, as with all of Snyder’s run of Batman so far, is a story that simply should not be missed.”—IGN “Why is Gotham City crumbling, you ask? Well, that’s mostly due to Batman writer Scott Snyder putting the city through the wringer time and time again in consistently excellent stories like “Court of Owls,” “Death of the Family,” and now “Endgame.””—NERDIST Scott Snyder is one of comics' best young writers. His current works include BATMAN, SUPERMAN UNCHAINED, AMERICAN VAMPIRE and SWAMP THING. He has also been published in Zoetrope, Tin House, One-Story, Epoch, Small Spiral Notebook, and other journals, and has a short story collection, Voodoo Heart, which was published by Dial Press. He teaches at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence University and lives in New York with his wife, Jeanie, and his children.

Features & Highlights

  • He is Batman’s greatest enemy, his deadliest threat, his opposite number. His bloody-minded madness is exceeded only by his twisted genius. He is the Clown Prince, the Pale Man, and his crimes turn the world into one big, sick joke.   But today, the joke is over.   As The Joker plays his endgame with the Batman, citizens, villains, and heroes alike must survive his deadly antics and come to terms with who The Joker is and what he means to them.   THE JOKER: ENDGAME collects the ancillary tales of Gotham City as it plays his endgame with it from the pages of BATMAN #35-39, ARKHAM MANOR: ENDGAME #1, BATGIRL: ENDGAME #1, BATMAN ANNUAL #3, DETECTIVE COMICS: ENDGAME #1, and GOTHAM ACADEMY: ENDGAME #1!

An average story. I'd rather read others.

I bought this version over the Batman version as it is supposed to contain everything the Batman one does plus extra issues. And it does. Though the extra issues included were not that strong. The extra stuff didn't really help the story along and frankly, I might have been better off with the Batman version. I give this 3 stars as I just don't think the story was all that great. The Joker spreads a virus and chaos ensues with Gotham falling apart and basically becoming a war zone. Batman already had the Contagion storyline. They already had storylines where Gotham is basically either a war zone or destroyed. How many times can that happen to a city, even Gotham? The Joker releasing yet another virus? I don't know. I saw very little originality to it. Batman fought, but there was very little in the way of anything truly happening. It was an OK read, but there are so many better Batman stories I'm not sure why this one gets so many great reviews.

If you're a Snyder fan, I guess you will like it. I did like the art of the Batman stories. The other issues included had much weaker art work. If you haven't read too many other Batman stories, don't start with this. It is more of a collection filler than a really good read.

Worth spending the extra buck vs. buying volume 7

Snyder does it again after the fallow up on "batman: death of a family". Amazing, brutal, and questioning your best judgement on the joker, this novel gives us an insight to what is the joker in contrast to batman being an idea of true justice, but this time things become more personal between both batman and joker, means to an end... Permenantly.

If you plan to buy the batman volume 7 I would strongly suggest you get this complete "joker: end game" instead. It includes the batman volume 7 and extras that adds more depth to the conflict and more depth to the madness that is joker.

OVERALL GRADE: C.

I read volume 7 so this was a disappointment. I was hoping for more tie-ins to the overall story but the added materials are all over the place so not interesting.
