I tried to get into it and has a good base and idea on the world but the writing is bad. The story jumps around way way to much. Every once in a while you see greatness in the writing than bam, horrible writing. No transition. One minute their in Paris, another in New York. I also wanted to punch the main character in the face, he was emotionless. When a part happened in the story to the main character, said main character should either be upset, pissed or very very sad, but all of a sudden he's ok. Not thinking of it much. I personally would hunt whoever did it and destroy them, especially if I had his powers. I admit though, I only got about 45% through the book before having to put it down. The story just flopped from one scene to the next and the minor characters had no structure or were to quick to be out of the scene. There was a scene that the guy blew up a hole in a wall, than was like, oh ok, its ok let's do the next scene. And time frame of it all, oh I flew to New York from Paris, did all this stuff in one day, than back again.
Also, another post mentioned him being gay, and I have no problem with that, but I just couldn't get into the character due to what I mentioned above and this. I like the poster, put myself in the shoes of the character and couldn't see it. I think it was how it was brought up, at the beginning of the book, no mention of his sexuality, had you thinking he was straight than it was oh, out of left field I am interested in dudes and you had no clue, surprise! Just seemed the author was trying to hard to give life to a character and was just putting in stuff. I don't know, maybe in the 2nd half of the book, it gets better but couldn't finish it.

It's like drugs, but good for you
To be honest, I can't recall how I initially discovered this book, but after having read the excerpt provided here, I was instantly hooked and bought it on impulse. Upon receiving the book two days later (love that 2-day shipping!), I tore into it ravenously. I've got a bit of a nasty habit where, when I get my hands on something truly engrossing, I'll read it obsessively until I'm done and am craving more. It's like drugs, but good for you!
The story was solid, bringing in various factions of fantasy, but in a clever and cohesive manner.
Dorian's reactions to the new environments, characters and situations are realistic, and (I think) relatable to most people, and I enjoy how Noah always keeps you guessing. I'm always afraid of commenting about the details of the books, because I don't want to give anything away!
To sum it up, The Immortal Coil is ranked near the top of my favorite series ever list, for sure! I'm definitely going to be re-reading these again!

Pleasantly surprised!
Great book. I'm usually not really into this genre but this was a surprisingly entertaining read. The plot was way more thought out than I was expecting. I just finished the second book and I could easily read a third.

A good read
Haven't gotten around to writing a review yet, but I definitely would consider this (and the second book) a must-read! I really love the character Noah, and find that this novel covers very poignantly the importance of being yourself and overcoming a society's backwards stigmas. Give this series a shot, everyone -- you won't be disappointed.
