Fictionalized

I was so looking forward to this book… and I got such a good price… that it made it twice as disappointing to discover not history, but something else altogether.
The book is attractive to look at, but… The section on Bay of Pigs is almost word-for-word what you’d expect from the anti-Castro camp, which set the standard, until recently, for straight-out lying.
I don’t know if this approach is applied to all topics, but I don’t want to take the chance. At a time when honesty and simplicity could help us understand the world of today so we can rise to the future, this book does the opposite.
I will avoid this series, sadly. There’s enough BS in the world.

This book is all i was looking for years

I'm not a history major, nor am i someone who wants to dive deep in history of a particular period. But i've had so many questions, and lots of dots that I didn't know how to connects. This book was the answer. Concise and on point, this book helped me pretty much connect all the dots. Absolutely the best history books for those who are mostly interested in the big picture. I've purchased 4 more books in the series (Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, and religions book). They're all awesome books and are helping me fill all my knowledge gaps.

Also no where does it take about the great Mauryan Empire (India) which was the richest empire during ...

The book is old-schooled and doesn't take new archeological discoveries into account. For instance the new discovery of the city called Bhirrana which dates back to 7575 BCE, making the Indian civilization over 9,000 years old and the oldest civilization in the world is no where seen in this book. Also no where does it take about the great Mauryan Empire (India) which was the richest empire during the ancient time. You would think if they are writing about the ancient times they would write about the richest empire during that period. The book talks about rebellions but misses the great Shivaji Maharaja the leader of the Indian rebellion against the Mughal empire and creator of Maratha Empire, whose actions still have consequence today. Without Shivaji's actions there wouldn't have been Hindus in today's time, that is nearly 1 billion people. How did the writers miss so many important events is beyond me, very shallow writing also they missed major African Kingdoms.

I'm first to write a review just pointing that out :)

Book is great! Obviously it won't cover 100% of history from the start of civilization, but it's pretty close to covering all of it. The content is precise, but more importantly, pretty moderate. You don't have to worry about too much of an American bias or left/right-winged bias.

love this book

This book is a wonderful way to learn the history of people and cultures going back to ancient history. Just enough information to be educated without having to read a bunch of histories about different times.

History overview omits Jesus Christ

This book is the Readers Digest version of the history of the world. My husband likes reading it, but he was disappointed there was no mention of Jesus Christ.

These books are a pain in the a$$ to read. Bubbles are littered throughout as well as sub-sections and ramblings.

Strong Layout With Summary of Major Historical Events

The strength of this book is in the layout and design of the content. Every heading and subheading pops to the eyes of the reader. Important and preceding events and effects are placed on the right of every historical event written in this book. It serves as a good primer for world history and a great study tool for the CSET Exam on Social Sciences. It's weakness lies in its bias towards some historical events coupled with its superficial explanation of those events.

Overviews or refreshers

I love these DK history books. They're easy reads of what adults should have learned long ago or refreshers on what we'd forgotten not long after we tested on the units in school. I've read several of them, gaining information, understanding and occasional insights with pieces of info that make sense of areas I never quite understood.
