Very dispointed with the Kindle Copy of this book

This book is undoubtably a very good book and I am sure that I would love to have it in hardback/paper back how ever as a kindle book it is a disaster !

I think that I purchasedone of the first Kindles about ten years ago and since I have purchased some 1,000 books, all noveles, my Kindle is just great and my best friend ! This book hoow ever is the first time I have purchased a "handbook" andis not thesort of book that works well on a Kindle.

The book on Kindle is the same price as a hardback and I wish that I hadchosen the hard back to take to my workshop and brows through at my leisure, you just can't do this with Kindle copy. Thediagrams don't come out well andnot to put too finerpoint on it I couldn't be more dispointed. Any chance of sending mea hard copy andtaking back the Kindle copy?

Inspiration between two covers

This young woman up in Alaska is simply astonishing for her carpentry skills, and the writing is good as well. I bought the book for my Kindle so I would not lose it before I could build some of the projects included in her book. Specifically, I bought the e-book for the picture ledge project. My need is not for pictures, but for a support to go around my dining room above the door and window moldings so that I may hide the LED rope lighting which shines up to the ceiling, controlled by dimmers, and thus make the square room appear to have a small "cove" encircling it. It would become an architectural feature of the room.

Originally I'd had a cabinetmaker attempt to build my "cove" for the lighting, but it did not work out right as he began mounting the parts on the wall. I called a halt to his work. Then in the middle of this, I discovered the picture ledges, and a willing professional carpenter (one who worked on our home remodel) is due to complete the ledges around the room. He will do it when he gets a bad weather off day.

What I like about the book and all the projects, the author gives a great materials list. She shows the process, explains the use of power tools. Her book is directed primarily toward women, empowering us to do more with power tools, and making recommendations in the process. In a way, it is somewhat autobiographical in the reading of the projects. She had a need for a picture ledge, and the creativity to build what she saw as too expensive purchased. I can attest to the savings enjoyed by skilled do-it-yourselfers.

I recommend this book for women new to using power tools who are interested in creating home furnishings for a reasonable cost. You can do it yourself and get exactly what you want. So you are married and young, and your husband is tired at the end of the week, and you don't want to nag--of course not--get inspired by this "can do" little lady and customize a project for YOUR home. It is inspiring, and you won't forget the empowered feeling long after you put the book down.

Not for the absolute beginner

I thought I would be okay getting this, only having a little bit of experience, but found that I had a lot of questions that weren't answered in this book. At what point to I sand the project? At what stage should I start painting? Why does it say I can get 3 pieces of 32" wide plywood sheets when the saw ends up turning an inch of the board into sawdust. I do love the variety of projects and ideas that are in it, so I'll just have to do a little more thinking and research to complete each successfully. I think a little more work could have made this an excellent resource.

I love this book!!!

I am a homeschool Mom. Building with my kids is a great way to incorporate so many hands-on learning experiences where they are actually thinking mathematically, learning a lifelong skill, and the end result is something they can be proud of for years to come. Talk about great gifts at a fraction of the cost of trinkets that friends and relatives will eventually discard. I love that they are also using this time to truly consider the person they are building for when the piece is intended as a gift. Inevitably, they will add a unique finishing touch.

Awesome Book Awesome Author

I love this book. I bought the digital version, but am considering a hard copy just to have it as a coffee table book. I have always wanted to build things, and Anna Whites website made me more interested. This book helped me know I could do it. It has the tools recommended for starting off. It also includes great plans with in depth instructions and tips. I am so grateful for Anna White helping people like me make the things we need!

Love Ann white but...

Most of these plans can be found online. I should have read the other reviews first but I was hoping for more new plans.

Great starter book!

Great starter book! Turns out I already knew a lot more about building furniture than I thought I did from helping my father-in-law build things for me. This book clarifies a lot of questions that I had like what screws or nails I should use and when, and how to clamp things when you don't have that extra pair of hands to help. The lists tell me what size lumber to buy instead of guessing and hoping that your bed held up the first time you climbed into it.

Thanks Ana for giving me the confidence to buy lumber now instead of fabric and crochet thread. I've always been a creative person but most of my projects went to customers, like draperies, or as gifts to family, like machine embroidery and thread crocheted christening gowns.

I love working with my hands and creating beautiful things. Now I have the confidence to make some beautiful things for myself.

Good Read

Clear, concise, and a decent amount of project ideas. Even of you don't build these specific projects, the author's methods will give you the groundwork for bringing your own ideas to life.

I wanted a woodworking manual, not a self-help book

The projects are great but I could do without the constant condescending fluff like "women can do woodworking too". There's plenty of woodworking books with a more gender egalitarian approach - for example, Nick Offerman's "Good Clean Fun".
