The Halloween Tarot Deck and Book Set

It will take no time to adjust to the suits (Bats=swords, etc) if you are already accustomed to the traditional suits. I've looked all over the internet and was unable to find many images on the deck and is the reason why I made a 6-min video review featuring just the deck. I hope this shortened review is somewhat helpful. Enjoy my updated video for this deck.

I've been playing around with tarot for something over 10 years, sporadically, though my lack of focus has left me still somewhere between a novice and intermediate. I've often struggled with my tarot practice.

I've also tried quite a few decks; some never resonated with me and I got rid of them; a few I kept because I really like the theme or imagery, but they still never quite 'got it' for me.

My standard personal use deck is the Robin Wood deck, which I love, work with the most, and am beginning to get a rapport with, finally. (I don't blame the beautiful deck, I think it's just my struggle to open up intuitively).

Having given that background information, on to this deck. I LOVE Halloween and after considering this deck for several years, finding myself in a more-than-usual Halloweeny mood this year, decided to get it. I couldn't have made a better decision.

This deck and I 'bonded' almost instantly. I find the cards really just opening up information and ideas to me in a way I'm really not used to with my past tarot practice. ("so THIS is what it's supposed to be like!")

Though it's drawn in a cartoon-like style, and the themes are fun (what's not to love about Halloween?) it's far from shallow! I've never owned the actual RWS deck, but Robin Wood is based on it, so I'm familiar with the 'traditional imagery.' This deck is also based on that traditional imagery, so it's not like it's so far out in left field that you have no basis to work from in reading the cards. But of course, you don't have to be familiar with RWS for this deck to be useful, either.

As a bonus, the added twist of the Halloween theme just adds more layers to it to explore. I initially thought swapping the traditional suits of Coins (or Pentacles), Swords, Wands and Cups for Pumpkins, Bats, Imps and Ghosts would just be kind of silly. Nope - it works! It makes perfect sense when working with this deck. Sometimes, to me, more sense than the 'traditional' suits. It just seems to give me more information to work with.

I've been using this deck for several days, and I've done more readings in that time than I have in the last several months - particularly because I so enjoy working with it, and the information I am getting is so instant, spot-on, useful, intriguing, and just plain fun.

The accompanying book is very nice. Though I'm focusing on developing a more intuitive tarot practice, I still like to have the book handy for some guidance as to what the deck author had in mind, if I get really stuck (though I only use it when I'm stuck). When I first got my deck, the first thing I did was sit down and go through all the cards one at a time, without looking at the book, just to get my own intuitive feel for them. After spending a day or so on that, I read the book cover to cover, just to get an overview. The chapters on the history of Halloween are a lot of fun, and each card's description is succinct and to the point. It gives a nice background, and pointed out a few things I might not have thought of on my own, to store in the back of my mind; my theory being, they'll pop up in the future if I need that information for a particular reading.

So ... everyone is different, and decks some people love do nothing for someone else. But for me, this deck has been awesome, actually exceeding my expectations. If you love Halloween, definitely try this deck. It's not only a lot of fun, but has some rich and thought-provoking imagery, and is well worth exploring.

How much can I go on about how much I love this deck? It makes meal time fun! As a professional Tarot reader with over 15,000 clients and teacher of Tarot, Tarot author, teacher of professional psychics I can throw ALL of my credibility at the statement that this is the most fun deck ever! Sorry Hello Kitty--this deck is just more fun. Okay, so why is it such a great deck (assuming you haven't read anyone else's reviews).

The deck closely follows the standard symbolism established for the modern Tarot by A.E. Waite and Pam Smith. Most theme decks I have come across are pretty to look at but hard to read with and sacrifice valuable symbolism that makes them difficult to interpret when you are face to face with a REAL CLIENT who wants to know if their boyfriend is cheating on them, or how their job search will go over the next 6 months. I know this, I have been there. I have bought three (3!!) Dali decks (at $120 each) and never could read with them. They were amazing to look at. The Tarot of the Cats--another deck that is all but impossible to work with on a daily basis. This deck breaks through that barrier. The childlike simplicity of the images hides the depth of symbolism these cards possess. They work. They are easy to read and they take the pressure off of you, the reader. The friendly art removes the stigma of the Tarot's dark and mysterious superstitions. As a bonus, these cards are GREAT for fun party Tarot games. Everyone will want to join in when you bring these out. I personally guarantee it. You owe yourself a treat. Get yourself this deck and you will fall in love with the Tarot.

The Halloween Tarot deck has fantastic artwork. Everything is associated with the spirit of Halloween. The drawings are wonderful and I would even recommend this deck to the novice readers.

The book is great, but some of the cards are printed a bit off center. The border appears to be larger on one side on several of the cards.
I love the art in this deck, so I also ordered a second deck (without the book) off of eBay, as I plan to edge and color the borders black, and the cards are printed perfectly centered in that deck.

i loved the artwork - felt that the way the 4 suits were handled was a very interesting way to attribute them, both by direction and element. Just as i've said i like the Gummy Bear Tarot for kids who have an interest in learning this, from their parents or grandparents, i feel this deck would be esp. good for teens who want to learn. But also both decks are good for the young at heart, which i am - although i'm not young chronologically.

The art work on the cards is so beautiful. You don't have to do a reading, just enjoy the art.

I loved the retro Halloween theme. I have several Tarot decks that I have collected over the years but seldom buy new ones unless the decks are exceptional! This one did not disappoint. Beautiful artwork!
