Features & Highlights

  • Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.
  • Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives―predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning―and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…
  • Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.
  • As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something―and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

Strictly amateur hour

I bought the Kindle version and audible narration because it looked interesting and was inexpensive. Bad mistake. The main character is supposed to be a psychiatrist but the author continuously confuses psychiatry with psychology. She even referred to her "doctoral work". Psychiatrists do residencies, not "doctoral work". Whatever her credentials, there is zero understanding of how a therapist works and what professional ethics they are supposed to follow. This is shoddy, trite writing. I couldn't even get through the first half. If you want soft pornography get a magazine. If you want a psychological thriller, get just about anything but this.

No understanding of psychology

I couldn’t finish this book because it was so unrealistic. The author clearly has no psychological background because many things were just so unbelievable. I had to stop when she described her office as ‘looking like the inside of a psych ward’… I think this was supposed to mean it’s messy but is actually reductive of the variety of mental illnesses people suffer from and doesn’t reflect the reality of a psych ward which is usually sterile and has no objects someone could hurt themselves with. You can’t even wear shoe laces into a psych ward so using that as analogy for messy?
The book is more about her inappropriate relationship with the hot lawyer than the supposed killer and murders

Spectacular!

Torre has a knack for suspenseful twisty writing that is also very believable. Every character in this book was fleshed out and served a purpose. No one was a throwaway so reading this book really made you feel you were on a true crime journey ripped from the headlines in your own neighborhood.

Torre also has a knack for creating sexy characters that you’d love to meet. And I’m not mad at her about it. lol

“The Good Lie” is a spectacular book!

You’ll NEVER predict the end!!!!!

MIND BLOWN!!! I couldn’t put this down. The dialogue between the characters unfolds just like a movie. The plot twists will give you chills. The characters are so well developed, you’ll be able to picture them and hear their voices. Can’t wait to read another by this author.

Good book but predictable

It was a good book, but I felt like the story was somewhat predictable. They beat around the bush so much that I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. But it was a good book.
