A really funny light comedy.
Trying to write this review without spoilers is a bit hard, but here it goes.
This is the story of a prince that became his country's regent when his father, the king, got sick. Unlike many other comedies where the MC (main character) is a very lucky incompetent fool, what we have here is a very competent person who abhors working. He takes his duties seriously but at the same time is trying to find a way to get rid of all the responsibilities and go live a live of leisure elsewhere with his assistant (the girl in the cover).
The comedy comes that all his schemes to get rid of his responsibilities blow in his face and he not only gets saddled with more work but the entire world, who had dismissed him as a playboy, starts to see him as a genius ruler.

"No good deed goes unpunished" - the anime
Enjoyed it - protagonist is a bit of a Gary Stu but escapes most of the narrative problems created by such characters by *actually having problems*. And largely problems caused by his own too-clever schemes.
There's a Chinese saying about not assuming that a seemingly positive/negative event is actually positive/negative immediately after it happens, but only applying those judgements with the benefit of time - a lot of the events in this book remind me of that saying.

Original
Small anemic country with brilliant but reluctant Prince fight invaders. They surprisingly triumph but nothing goes as planned. If you like it's humor, I also recommend boxed set Mouse that Roared.

Found a new series to follow
"Governance is about human behavior—a complex, tangled thing involving the thoughts and feelings of all kinds of people."
I love stories about governance, mainly because I love seeing how different people handle difficult situations that don't only affect them, but a large populace as a whole. The thing about ruling countries, is your decisions don't only affect you, your people, or your country. Your decisions can have implications for other countries as well, and we get to see that in this book.
It's one of the things this book does well, and it does a lot well. The relationships between the characters shine, the genius of Wein is undeniable, and there are moments you aren't sure how things are going to turn out. I loved that. I'm really interested to see how our titular genius handles things going forward.

Excellent read!
Not really sure it warrants the $8 price tag compared to other LNs of similar length, but I absolutely enjoyed reading the genius of the MC and the misunderstandings that ensue. Definitely looking forward to the next volume!

Fun Story - Too Short
Fun story. Good read, but far too short for the price. He should look at other books to get a better idea of the appropriate length for the price.

A light novel regarding governance.
It's more interesting that one would think. The quirky Prince Regent just adds to the mix. The universe has big plans for him, whether he wants to be a part of them or not. (≧▽≦)

Easy to read politicking and humor
I enjoyed reading this light novel. It was easy to read, well translated and made me chuckle. The setting doesn’t seem like it matches but the author does a great job of politicking and scheming while not being dense about it. Excited to read more!
