Great parallel story for Nathianel Garro

This book is a very good parallel timeline story for the original trilogy of books. This novels describes what is happening with Battle Captain Garro before, during, and after Istvaan III. Great pacing, nice plots twists and points of interests. Garro is definition of a Loyalists Space Marine. Determined, deadly and intelligent. Many times during the book the reader is shown a scenario from the first trilogy, such as when Horus meets Fulgrim aboard The Vengeful Spirit shortly after the formers fall to Chaos, but in this instance it's from Garro's POV. I enjoy this style approach. Also lays the groundwork for Garro being one of the first members of the Inquisition and subsequently the Grey Knights.

Overall, fantastic entry with many triumphs for the reader.

One of the best books in the series

One of the best books in The Horus Heresy if you ask me. I was listening to the audio books when I “read” it the first time, but I had to get a physical copy.

So well done.

Such good storytelling. Well done in the overlapping of the betrayal. Real emotion in these characters that brings the pain they feel to the surface. We’ll start the next book immediately thanks to this one.
