The Family Journal by Carolyn Brown

The Family Journal is a beautiful heartwarming story of a women who decided to bring her children who were getting into trouble in the big city and brought them back to her hometown of Comfort Texas. The kids ended up loving the area and made wonderful new friends and Lily Ended up falling in love for a second time to a wonderful man named Mack Cooper.

When Lily was looking through her mothers secretary desk she found a old family journal that all the Grandmothers and her momma wrote in throughout their lifetime.

I highly recommend this book for a wonderful and heartwarming story.

I love books by Carolyn Brown! This is a wonderful story set in an area of Texas where I was born and raised and have lived most of my life, so I really enjoyed this one. Exploring the family journal and family history made it a very interesting read.

A good read

My second book of hers to read. A nice story. It was kinda funny because this book talks about a lot of places I know or lived. It’s a happy and sad and everything in the mix. I have to admit I needed tissue. I am not saying it was depressing. It’s called life. Highly recommend another feel good story.

Nice Little Piece of Chick Lit, Great Way to Escape Reality Right Now!

A week or so ago, I read "The Family Journal" by Carolyn Brown but immediately started another book, and forgot to review this one. I give it 5 stars for the joy it brought, though it's certainly not great literature. It was simply a great little escape for the hours it took to read it. Brown's books, the 2 I have read, anyway, are set in small towns in Texas. In this one, a weary single mother of a 12 and 14 year old, leaves Austin for smaller pastures, i.e. her hometown of Comfort, Texas. Her kids were pushing the limits, getting caught dabbling in things they should not have been doing, and so she, Lily Anderson, did what needed to be done. She took away their devices, told them to pack up, and they moved to the old home in which she had been raised. Her parents had died, and she had been renting the house to a man she knew, but not well, since childhood.
It's easy to see where this was headed, but it was so well done. The children squawked and grumbled...at first, but they grew to love the goats on the property, and their new lives in Comfort. There were some other characters, of course, who led to complications, pain, and love. My only gripe is that for a bunch of educated adults, the dialect was riddled with grammatical horrors, purposely, I am sure, as if they were talking in small town Texas dialect, but it was off-putting to me. Otherwise, a little gem of a book, akin to a chick flick.
