It doesn’t matter how much I think I know – she always knocks me for six!’ Crime Book Junkie ‘A J Waines is the mistress of the twisty moral conundrum who paints a picture of mental distress with a creeping sense of menace to satisfy the most demanding reader.’ Beady Jan’s Books 'Absolutely brilliant' Julie Fitzsimmons 'Genuinely couldn't put this book down' M Hoyte-Morgan

Features & Highlights

  • There’s a body in the water - and she’s wearing your clothes…
  • Impulsive and intrepid psychotherapist, Juliet Grey, can’t resist responding to an anonymous text message telling her to go to Hammersmith Bridge at dawn. But it isn’t simply the dead body in the water that disturbs her, it’s the way something uniquely personal to Juliet has been left on the corpse.
  • Another obscure message - another London bridge - and Juliet finds herself caught up with a serial killer, who leaves personal mementos instead of collecting trophies.
  • Teaming up with local detective, DCI Brad Madison, Juliet strives to find out why she has been targeted and how it’s connected to the accident that killed her brother, nineteen years ago.
  • Can Juliet use her knowledge of the human psyche to get inside the mind of the killer, before another body is found under a bridge? And how long before Juliet herself becomes the next target?
  • 'Absolutely brilliant'
  • Julie Fitzsimmons
  • 'Genuinely couldn't put this book down'
  • M Hoyte-Morgan
  • The Evil Beneath will appeal to fans of authors such as Ruth Ware, C.L. Taylor and William Shaw.

I liked this book for a number of reasons

Gripping, fast paced, very well written and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I liked this book for a number of reasons. First, as a psychologist, I enjoyed the fact that the heroine is a psychotherapist and is mixing a lot of her personal experiences and insights with the plot. The fast pace and dark atmosphere mixed with some humor were a delight too (the story is, after all, about a serial murderer, or perhaps murderers…). The twists and turns of the investigation kept me reading just about around the clock. I did figure out who the villain was long before the end of the book, but, then, figuring out exactly how this person executed the crimes was impossible until I got to the very end. The motive for the crimes I found farfetched, but, then, it was definitely very original. Even with a long history of psychological thrillers, you will remember this one… . Recommended to any psychological thriller devotee.

Not that good.

This was only ok. I read a lot of mystery books, and based on the glowing Amazon reviews bought this book. I would recommend this only for a beach read or for someone new to the genre. It's definitely 'mystery light'. Some of the writing is clunky. And there's not much mystery to it. Upon re-reading many of the positive reviews, I see now that those came from people who the author had given free copies to. I found that so weird and wish I had paid attention to that before buying. Wish Amazon didn't allow those reviews as I think they are inherently biased. At least in this case.

This is a great book! It held my attention throughout the entire book. It kept me guessing on who was the real culprit. When I was not
reading this book, I was turning it over in mind to try to figure it out. Hard book to put down once you sink your teeth into it.

Great read!

This was a free book for me with my Kindle Unlimited membership and the first book I have read by this author. It was a great read, very well written, suspenseful with twists along the way. I would recommend and am actually just starting my second book by this author, Dark Place to Hide, I hope it is as good as this one.
