Easy Ideas for the solo cook!

I love this book! Since my kids have moved out, it't been more difficult to pair down meals. Even though I cook for two, this book makes it easy to just double the recipe. And I love the breakfast and lunch sections, two meals that I often make for one and struggle with. There is even a recipe for a quiche for 1 - something I would not have thought to do. Not only are there recipes in this book, there are plenty of tips for the solo cook such as shopping tips and meal planning for one. If you are cooking for one or two, I highly recommend this book!

Is good for 1 or 2 people I also

This is great I don't know but enough for both of us both me and my husband that just for me so that's good for 1 or 2 people really. Or like if me and my husband certain foods I don't like concert foods he don't like it I have to fix something different for each of us then this is a good way to do it that way. This book has a lot of delicious ideas in it

Appreciate that it has the nutritional breakdown

"The Cooking for One Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes" by Cindy Kerschner are easy recipes indeed and that is appreciated. What is also appreciated is the nutritional breakdown. A few cookbooks that I've looked at of late did not include. It isn't a necessity (unless it is health focused), but it is appreciated when it is included.

For this cookbook, there is a nice range of tastes. To be honest, I concentrated on the meatless mains because that is usually something that only I usually eat so it really is a 'cook for one' scenario. I am happy to report that I like most of the recipes in this section and they make for great 'take to work' lunches. So I'm pleased about that.

I'm was a little disappointed by the breakfast fare but again, I appreciate the nutritional breakdown so I knew which recipes to avoid. I was pleased that I could make the apple kugle from the dessert section. I didn't trying anything from the fish/seafood chapter because I'm not too into fish or seafood. The protein section is a combination of poultry, pork and meat which is okay by me.

The opening chapter is brief but pertinent for basics and meal planning. I'm okay with that as well, but I was a bit surprised at how short that section is. There isn't much in the way of appendices at the back. There is basically a measurement conversion, the dirty and clean 15 lists, and list of web resources.

It isn't an in-depth cookbook but I still rate it as a 4-star because it does deliver on easy recipes, relatively easy to find ingredients, a variety of tastes and the nutritional breakdown of the recipe.

Cooking for One Doesn't have to be boring! Get out of your typical meal rut

The Cooking for One cookbook offered a wonderful variety of recipes to get me out of the boring meal planning rut. Recipes use a variety of spices and ingredients for various cuisines from Mediterranean to Latin to Asian which makes cooking fun. You may need to do a little shopping at first if you don't normally have some of those ingredients but the book helps you buy with intention and not stock up on things you don't need or will only use once. I loved the two week planner which was carefully thought out to use leftovers from one recipe in an exciting way the next day. The recipes are easy to follow and well written. The author also offers lots of helpful kitchen planning tips which can help the novice cook.

The brussels sprouts and potato patties, mushroom and spinach quiche and spicy breakfast burrito were my favorite breakfast recipes. The Budha bowl, Tuna Rice Bowl and Sun dried tomato tortellini were also fun for lunch and dinner. The dessert section was a special treat since making dessert recipes is not something I usually do just for myself unless I want to eat a full cake, and that’s not good for the waistline. The vanilla mug cake was fantastic and versatile to make in different flavors.

If you’re cooking for two, I still highly recommend this cookbook. It’s a lot easier to adjust up on a recipe than it is to reduce. I recommend this book as a gift for your single friends and for couples, as well as college students, from cooking novices to experienced.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review. I was under no obligation and received no other form of compensation. I plan to continue to use this book regularly. I loved it!
