Description

An Amazon Best Book of May 2022: For every woman who’s ever been ignored, underestimated, or talked over, you need to read The Change . Described as “ Big Little Lies meets The Witches of Eastwick ,” with, we think, a tiny pinch of The First Wives Club thrown in for good measure, this epic, boo-yah revenge fantasy centers on three woman “of a certain age” who find that while their estrogen may be declining, the other “gifts” that arrived with menopause are surging, giving them the kind of super powers that can take on whoever is killing young women in their affluent neighborhood. Have your highlighter finger ready, because Miller has packed this novel with the kind of pithy, quotable, laugh-out-loud zingers that belong on fridge magnets everywhere. To misquote Dylan, The Change is gonna come, and evil better be ready. —Vannessa Cronin, Amazon Editor "The Change is like a guttural rage scream (and somehow a soft, tearful hug) of a book, and I couldn't have loved it any more." --Emily Henry — #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry “Miller triumphs... The Change is that rare treat: a suspenseful story with great pacing, memorable characters, and an engaging voice. Fantastic in every way, this fierce anthem against misogyny is a smash.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) "A pointed, punchy, and potent thriller...wry and clever, serious and exacting, and masterfully suspenseful." — Booklist (starred review) “The novel takes on serious issues but doesn’t take itself too seriously; there’s plenty of mordant humor, a suspenseful plot, and mostly brisk pacing. Crime fiction, superpower fantasy, and sharp satire about sexism and ageism mesh for a satisfying read.” — Kirkus Reviews "A delicious fantasy full of righteous rage, thorny entanglements, powerful sisterhood, and (wink, nudge) herbal remedies. Forget the teen dabblers of The Craft , or the lovelorn witches of Practical Magic : Joe, Nessa, and Harriet are the dynamic coven that angry feminist dreams are made of, here to remind us that everything gets better with age and experience— especially revenge." — Kat Rosenfield, author of No One Will Miss Her “Searing and witty and full of so much warranted rage. This was a book I didn’t know I was aching for. I cheered on every page.” — Erin A. Craig, New York Times bestselling author of House of Salt and Sorrows and Small Favors "A roar of rage, a pacy page-turner, I loved it with all my broken heart. Read it. You’ll love it." — Marian Keyes, New York Times bestselling author "There is a specter haunting women - the specter of rage. Kirsten Miller has woven a fun, gripping, lush, real fable, a Stepford Wives for the twenty-first century, a Witches of Eastwick if it had actually been written by a woman. THE CHANGE is poisonous as henbane, and twice as delicious." — Katherine Howe, New York Times bestselling author Kirsten Miller is a groundbreaking feminist author in YA literature, best known for her popular Kiki Strike series. In addition to writing novels, Kirsten spent twenty-five years as a strategist in the advertising industry. During that time she worked for some of the largest agencies in the world, as well as boutique agencies and an eight-person start up. She’s proud to have quit at least two of those jobs over ads and incidents described in The Change. Read more

With their newfound powers, Jo, Nessa, and Harriett will take matters into their own hands…

All the men are scoundrels, pedophiles, liars, and cheats

Seriously. Every. Single. Man. The women of this story are super heroes with special “talents” each one weirder than the next. And the men are scum. It gets tiresome real fast. And, of course, every story these days must have the required lesbian couple, 2 (only 2) black people, and dirty cop. I just want to be entertained when I read. Can we leave the woke crap for the news? Some may say it’s about feminism fighting back. Ok. Whatever.

Most powerful new age feminist novel

There is a lot I want to say about this book but unlike the author I am truly at a loss for words and don't think I could ever do a book like this justice. Personally I believe that it should be added to the list of mandatory reading in all
high schools around the world, so boys/men understood what we go through and so girls/women wouldn't know what to look out for.

On top of being a cautionary tale, it was also incredibly witty, charming, tear jerking, witchy and somehow managed to have romance even in the darkest of times, 100/10 one of the best books I've ever read!

Fabulous

I read around fifteen books a month on average, and while I enjoy most of them, I am rarely wowed. THE CHANGE is absolutely fabulous! Warning, if you are offended by profanity, you won't like the book. Not reading it will be your loss, however.

Not for me

I really wanted to love this book because the premise was so intriguing! Unfortunately, it was not for me. It was the whole “all men are evil” brand of feminism and it hits you over the head so hard with it I couldn’t even focus on any sort of actual plot. What a bummer. I’m sure many will love this though!

Midlife fail

i wanted to love this. I think magic and women my age with a mystery would be perfect. The story is just way too cliched for me. :women of a certain age, wronged by men, finding each other and then solving mysteries oh and throw in our periods, menopause and the empty nest. Enough already.
Thanks to the publisher though for a chance to review this ARC. I can see i am in the minority with my opnion!

Fantastic Read/ women finding/standing in their truth

This is the best fast paced great writing book I have read in a long time!! Up there with Nightingale. 🌺 I was tired of finding books just about married women and their problem relationships. As an independent older gal I was searching for ME characters. Here they are! A mix of women ( some married. Some not) who are independent minded. Each finding and standing in their truth and strength. Gal pals extraordinaire. Good read! I like this author and will watch for further reads. She captures the ways in which our familiar speech varies.

Feminist

I’m going to try to keep this short by saying this. Too much too much too much. I get it. I really do, but the banter started to wear me out and I just couldn’t finish.
I closely identified with almost all of the BS thats happened to these women. It makes me crazy that in some ways we as a country have not learned a thing about equality. Crazy!
So having said all that I just couldn’t enjoy it. I’m not rating this because it’s not fair to the author. I hear you girl! I. Hear. You❣️
Thanks William Morrow via NetGalley.

Extremely Good Book

Assigned to read this book by my neighborhood book club.

It’s more a book for women than it is for men (it gets pretty graphic about menstruation and menopause), but it is a FANTASTIC read.

These incredible women band together to take down some pretty evil jerks. This book is all about how life doesn’t just end after divorce, or menopause, or the death of a love one, or after children grow up and leave the nest.

The female leads in this story find a new, improved version of themselves, and they’re badasses. This book will leave you feeling empowered and motivated. It’s worth the read - I couldn’t put it down!

The best female empowerment book I have read -

since "The Power" by Naomi Alderman
Three women all with special gifts that work together to solve a crime. It was a long book but so interesting that it never dragged and kept you reading.
